California Democrat: Don't call it 'gun control'

M.WASHINGTONTIMES.COM 1 Hour Ago California Democrat: Don't call it 'gun control' Rep. Mike Thompson, picked by Nancy Pelosi to head House Democrats' new efforts to ban assault weapons, said Saturday that using the term "gun control" is unhelpful. "When you talk about 'gun control,' you turn off more than half of your audience," the California Democrat said in an interview on CNN. Mr. Thompson, a gun owner and a hunter himself, said it was time to do something about "assault weapons" in private hands. "I think assault weapons are a pox on the home of every gun owner," he said. "I think that's the thing that's going to cause the overwhelming majority of people in this country who aren't gun owners to have negative feelings about those of us who are gun owners." Mrs. Pelosi, the House minority leader, named Mr. Thompson to head the Gun Violence Prevention Task Force, which is expected to work

Gun shows face new scrutiny after Connecticut school shooting

FOX NEWS 11 Hours Ago Gun shows face new scrutiny after Connecticut school shooting SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – Four gun shows about an hour's drive from Newtown, Conn., have been canceled. Organizers say they weren't appropriate just weeks after a gunman killed 20 first-graders and six adults at an elementary school in Newtown. But gun advocates aren't backing down from their insistence on the right to keep and bear arms. The City Council in Saratoga Springs, N.Y., has urged a group to not display military-style weapons and high-capacity magazines at its upcoming gun show. Organizer David Petronis says it's not fair that the shows and their organizers are seen as the brunt of the problem. But he says he understands the reaction. The group agreed to the city's request.

Obama’s secret plan to reclassify your guns

WND.COM 3 Hours Ago Obama’s secret plan to reclassify your guns by DJ Dolce President Obama, congressional Democrats and even some Republicans plan to push new gun-control legislation in the 113th Congress, but defenders of the Second Amendment fear Obama is poised to enact the restrictions through the Executive Branch if Congress is not cooperative. John M. Snyder heads GunRightsPolicies.org and has worked for organizations from the National Rifle Association to the Second Amendment Foundation and the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms. He said Obama and his allies have already chartered what regulatory course to pursue through the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, or ATF. “We have some confidential information that he may order the ATF to reclassify certain models of semi-automatic firearms as Title 2 guns under the Gun Control Act of 1968,” Snyder told WND. “What this would mean is that people could not obtain these without going throu

Obama Prepares to Defeat NRA with Speedy Legislation

PATRIOTUPDATE.COM 16 Minutes Ago Obama Prepares to Defeat NRA with Speedy Legislation by Jan Morgan According to TPM, America’s favorite never-let-a-crisis-go-to-waste administration is preparing to ram through a number of restrictions to our Second Amendment civil rights as early as Jan 15. The idea behind this strategy is to strike while people’s heightened emotions are still scrambling common sense: The White House and gun control supporters are gearing up for a whirlwind month, with plans to pass reform legislation before outrage over the Sandy Hook massacre has a chance to fade. … House Democrats are moving ahead with their own plans as well. On Friday, Rep. Mike Thompson (D-CA), chair of the newly created Gun Violence Prevention Task Force, announced the appointment of 12 vice chairs, including Rep. Carolyn McCarthy (D-NY), the body’s leading voice on gun control. According to a Democratic aide, the group plans to release its recommendations in early February and is alre

FBI: More People Killed with Hammers, Clubs Each Year than Rifles

USACARRY.COM 2 Days Ago FBI: More People Killed with Hammers, Clubs Each Year than Rifles by AWR Hawkins According to the FBI annual crime statistics, the number of murders committed annually with hammers and clubs far outnumbers the number of murders committed with a rifle. This is an interesting fact, particularly amid the Democrats' feverish push to ban many different rifles, ostensibly to keep us safe of course. However, it appears the zeal of Sens. like Dianne Feinstein (D-CA) and Joe Manchin (D-WV) is misdirected. For in looking at the FBI numbers from 2005 to 2011, the number of murders by hammers and clubs consistently exceeds the number of murders committed with a rifle. Think about it: In 2005, the number of murders committed with a rifle was 445, while the number of murders committed with hammers and clubs was 605. In 2006, the number of murders committed with a rifle was 438, while the number of murders committed with hammers and clubs was 618. And so the li

Inmates Use Newspaper’s Gun Map To Threaten Guards

PAT DOLLARD YOUNG AMERICANS 4 Hours Ago Inmates Use Newspaper’s Gun Map To Threaten Guards by Pat Dollard Jan 5, 2013 Pat Dollard Excerpted from Fox News: Law enforcement officials from a New York region where a local paper published a map identifying gun owners say prisoners are using the information to intimidate guards. Rockland County Sheriff Louis Falco, who spoke at a news conference flanked by other county officials, said the Journal News’ decision to post an online map of names and addresses of handgun owners Dec. 23 has put law enforcement officers in danger. “They have inmates coming up to them and telling them exactly where they live. That’s not acceptable to me,” Falco said, according to Newsday. Robert Riley, an officer with the White Plains Police Department and president of its Patrolman’s Benevolent Association, agreed. “You have guys who work in New York City who live up here. Now their names and addresses are out there, too,” he said adding that there a

WY Hotel Clerk Pulls Gun on Two Would Be Robbers

GUNSSAVELIVES.NET 4 Hours Ago WY Hotel Clerk Pulls Gun on Two Would Be Robbers A hotel clerk in Casper, WY pulled a gun she kept in her lunchbox (which is probably not the best place to keep your concealed handgun) on two men who entered the hotel with their faces covered and demanding money. The men fled the hotel after the clerk pulled the gun. No shots were fired and no one was hurt. This is another example of a story that won’t be included in many self defense studies/statistics because there were no shots fired and no one was killed. The pair of robbers may be connected to several other hotel robberies in the area over the last couple of months. IRONICSURREALISM.COM 5 Hours Ago Florida County Sheriff Boycotts Anti-2nd Amendment Gun Dealer Shooting themselves in their public relations foot. Sheriff Scott Berry made of the right stuff: “You don’t pick and choose, you either support the Constitution or you don’t” OCONEE COUNTY, GA (CBS ATLANTA) – Oconee County Sheriff Scott Berry said neither he nor his law enforcement agency will purchase weapons anytime soon from a major firearms dealer, after that dealer made a change to its policy on who can buy certain types of weapons. Dana Safety Supply, which has a store in Sugar Hill, recently amended its policy to exclude any non-law enforcement customers from purchasing semi-automatic weapons. A company spokesman confirmed their policy change. “While we support the rights of Americans to own and safely enjoy firearms, we have chosen to sell some select firearms to law enforcement personnel only. DSS remains dedicated to the safe and responsible sale of firearms and suppo

Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.)--author of the federal "assault weapon" and "large" ammunition magazine ban of 1994-2004--has said for weeks that she will soon introduce an even more restrictive bill. Leaders in the U.S. Senate have stated that January 22 will be the first day on which new Senate legislation can be proposed, so that is the most likely date for the new, sweeping legislation to be introduced. On Dec. 17th, Feinstein said, "I have been working with my staff for over a year on this legislation" and "It will be carefully focused." Indicating the depth of her research on the issue, she said on Dec. 21st that she had personally looked at pictures of guns in 1

Guns: Put Up or Shut Up!

HUFFINGTON POST 9 Hours Ago Guns: Put Up or Shut Up! by Geoffrey R. Stone In 1990, 78% of Americans thought we needed stricter gun laws. Today, only 44% of Americans think so. What has caused this dramatic shift in public opinion? It is not because more people now own guns. In 1990, 48% of Americans had guns in their homes. Today, 45% of Americans do. It is not because gun deaths are no longer a problem. Since 1990, a quarter-of-a-million Americans have been killed by guns. Why, then, has there been so precipitous a decline in the percentage of Americans who support stricter guns laws? The answer lies largely in the democratic process. Those who oppose stricter gun laws have organized, they have aggressively promoted their positions, and they have been extraordinarily effective in electing candidates who support their policies and defeating those who oppose them. The nation's largest and most potent anti-gun control organization, the National Rifle Association, increa

After Newtown, public access to US gun records is a flashpoint

OPENCHANNEL.NBCNEWS.COM 5 Hours Ago After Newtown, public access to US gun records is a flashpoint by M. Alex Johnson By M. Alex Johnson, NBC News The shootings of 20 young children and six adult workers last month at a Connecticut elementary school has revived debate not only over gun control, but also over whether the holders of handgun permits should be identified publicly. The fiercely contested question of confidentiality for handgun permit holders arose last month after the shooting in New York's Lower Hudson Valley published the names of local gun owners. The newspaper, the Journal News, based in Nyack, N.Y., reportedly had to hire armed guards because of the outpouring of anger that greeted publication of its map. The newspaper acted after the shootings at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown on Dec. 14, which also claimed the lives of the gunman, 20-year-old Adam Lanza, and his mother, spurring new activism for gun control. It was able to get the information t

Articles: Confirmed: Diane Feinstein Doesn't Know Anything

AMERICANTHINKER.COM 6 Hours Ago Articles: Confirmed: Diane Feinstein Doesn't Know Anything by Warren Beatty Senator Diane Feinstein (D-CA), on December 17, 2012, announced that she will introduce a bill in the next Congress to stop the sale, transfer, importation, and manufacturing of military-style assault weapons and high-capacity ammunition feeding devices (otherwise known as magazines). When asked, "Which special interests in Washington have too much power?," Feinstein answered in May 2012, "Guns." She continued, "We now have something happening in the US that has never happened before. That is, children killing children with guns. Over 13 a day." As Mark Kogan says, "In one sweeping stroke, Feinstein intends to instigate the pro-gun lobby, alienate the majority of Americans who oppose re-instating a federal assault weapons ban, and run headlong into a constitutional battle[.]" And let's not forget that in 1995, on CBS
