Rand Paul On Immigration

Tuesday, March 19th Rand Paul on Immigration After appearing on Hannity last night to discuss his CPAC straw poll victory, Kentucky Senator Rand Paul gave a speech to the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce this morning laying out more details of his plans on immigration reform. His speech was also timely, considering the RNC autopsy report released yesterday, pointing to the obvious GOP weakness in attracting minority voters. Senator Paul's plan does not call for national ID cards or mandatory e-verify, which he says causes "businesses to become policemen." One interesting point to note is that media repo

Harry Reid On Why He Shelved DiFi’s “Assault” Weapons Ban: We Couldn’t Muster Even 40 Votes…

WEASELZIPPERS.US 2 Hours Ago Harry Reid On Why He Shelved DiFi's "Assault" Weapons Ban: We Couldn't Muster Even 40 Votes… Via  Politico : Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid told reporters on Tuesday that he would not have been able to get a gun control bill to the Senate floor if it included the assault weapon ban. Reid explained that the decision to move a comprehensive bill sans an assault weapon ban was made because otherwise there would not have been 60 votes. He said members will still be able to vote on the assault weapon ban through an amendment. "Dianne has worked so hard on this," Reid said, referring to the ban's sponsor, Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.). "She understands going back to the day she found the mayor dead in his office. I know that, but right now her amendment, using the most optimistic numbers, has less than 40 votes. That's not 60. I have to get something on the floor so we can have votes on that issue and the other issu

A universally bad idea

A universally bad idea THEHILL.COM 1 Hour Ago A universally bad idea by Alice Chaosurawong Tweet Will trampling the rights of law-abiding gun owners really do anything to help keep our children safe? Will piling unnecessary weight on a federal regulatory system that’s already drowning help keep guns out of the wrong hands? The answers, of course, are “no” — which is why a so-called “universal background check” system should be dismissed by any lawmaker who is serious about protecting constitutional freedom and improving public safety. A mandate for truly “universal” background checks would put the federal government squarely in the middle of every sale, loan or gift of a firearm between private individuals. In other words, it would criminalize all private firearms transfers, even between family members or friends who have known each other all of their lives. Such a sweeping and intrusive new mandate would crush the current National Criminal Instant Background Check System (NI

Watch what you Post!! Family’s home raided over Facebook photo of child’s rifle

HUMAN EVENTS 1 Hour Ago Family's home raided over Facebook photo of child's rifle by  Todd Starnes New Jersey police and Dept. of Children and Families officials raided the home of a firearms instructor and demanded to see his guns after he posted a Facebook photo of his 11-year-old son holding a rifle. "Someone called family services about the photo," said Evan Nappen, an attorney representing Shawn Moore. "It led to an incredible, heavy-handed raid on his house. They wanted to see his gun safe, his guns and search his house. They even threatened to take his kids." Moore was not arrested or charged. A Dept. of Children and Families spokesperson told me they could not confirm or deny an investigation or raid had taken place due to government regulations. "The department has a child abuse hotline for the state of New Jersey and anybody can make a call to that hotline," spokesperson Kristen Brown said. "We are required to follow up on every sin

Savor the Richly Deserved Defeat of Feinstein's 'Assault Weapon' Ban

REASON MAGAZINE 2 Hours Ago Savor the Richly Deserved Defeat of Feinstein's 'Assault Weapon' Ban by  Jacob Sullum Senate Judiciary CommitteeYesterday Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) revealed that her "assault weapon" ban will not be part of the gun control bill that Senate Democrats plan to offer next month. Although her bill still can be offered as an amendment, Politico  reports , "its exclusion from the package makes what was already an uphill battle an almost certain defeat." At the risk of reading too much into this delightful development, I count it as a victory not just for the Second Amendment but for rationality in lawmaking. As a  comparison  of the testimony pro and con readily reveals, supporters of Feinstein's bill never offered a plausible, let alone persuasive, explanation for the distinction she drew between the guns she deemed "legitimate" and the dreaded "assault weapons" she sought to ban. The clo

Holy cow: Not even 40 votes in the Senate for the assault-weapons ban, says United Staes Senator Harry Reid

HOTAIR.COM 41 Minutes Ago Holy cow: Not even 40 votes in the Senate for the assault-weapons ban, says Reid posted at 4:41 pm on March 19, 2013 by Allahpundit Amazing. I predicted once or twice in writing about the AWB that there might not be 50 votes but I felt silly about it afterwards. Of course there’d be 50 votes. The bill was doomed to be filibustered given the GOP’s solid opposition plus the skittishness of red-state Dems like Mark Pryor, Mark Begich, and Mary Landrieu, but Reid would be able to muster 50 if only because Senate Democrats would want to avoid humiliating Obama after his big gun-control campaign. That way, even when the bill failed on the cloture vote, O could still claim that it had majority support in the Senate. That’s key for his 2014 messaging against the GOP: The more stuff he can lay at the feet of Republicans, the better Democrats’ chances are. Instead, this. Wow: “Dianne has worked so hard on this,” Reid said, referring to the ban’s sponsor, Sen. D

The GOP Image Problem

Tuesday, March 19, 2013 "I thought Pope Francis' inauguration ceremony was far more modest than Obama's, which, I guess, is fitting.  The pope is not nearly as much of a religious figure as Obama is. But I still would have liked to have seen a Vatican flyover, the Blue Angels or something." - Rush Transcripts, Rush 24/7 Audio Now at RushLimbaugh.com:  Message to GOP: The Problem Isn't Who You Are; It's What People Say About You The Limbaugh Amnesty Plan Dr. Carson's Theory on the Media Bill Maher Just Found Out Who Pays Taxes
