MSNBC’S TOURÉ: ‘I HAVE A RIGHT TO KNOW…WHO HAS A GUN AND WHO DOESN’T’

MSNBC’S TOURÉ: ‘I HAVE A RIGHT TO KNOW…WHO HAS A GUN AND WHO DOESN’T’ Posted on December 27, 2012 at 9:52pm by Jason Howerton Print »Email » Comments (105) A weekly publication in New York, The Journal News, has come under fire for publishing the names and addresses of pistol permit holders in two New York counties. On Thursday, the publication got some help from a couple of MSNBC hosts who defended the paper’s actions. During Thursday’s edition of “The Cycle,” co-host Touré argued that he has every right to know the identity of every gun owner around him. “I have a right to know, I think, to know who has a gun and who doesn’t,” Touré said. “Maybe I don’t want to go there, maybe I don’t want my kids going there.” He went on to claim that guns are far more likely to be used against friends and family than against home intruders. “We treat guns as a private choice, but they are really a public matter in that having a gun impacts the local community, the national community

free condom dispensers will be placed in 22 of Philadelphia's 51 high schools

(Reuters) - There will be something new in many Philadelphia high schools when students return to class next week - free condoms. Under a city plan, free condom dispensers will be placed in 22 of Philadelphia's 51 high schools after winter break, part of an initiative aimed at battling the spread of sexually transmitted diseases between students. Parents who do not want their children involved in the program can opt out, school district spokesman Fernando Gallard said on Thursday. "It's a self-service set-up so you can actually walk into the nurse's office, and there is a dispenser on the wall and you just help yourself to them," he said. Gallard said the schools were selected for the program based on a report by the city's Health Department that showed rising rates of some sexually transmitted diseases among students. "STD rates amongst youth in Philadelphia have been alarming, especially the increases in gonorrhea and chlamydia since early 201

Michael Moore: ‘Calm Down, White People, and Put Away Your Guns’ By Elizabeth Harrington December 26, 2012 Subscribe to Elizabeth Harrington's posts Documentary-maker and liberal activist Michael Moore. (AP) (CNSNews.com) – Documentary-maker and liberal activist Michael Moore said the reason for mass shootings in the United States is largely due to fear and racism, and on Christmas Eve he pleaded, “calm down, white people, and put away your guns.” In a blog post entitled “Celebrating the Prince of Peace in the Land of Guns,” while still calling for stricter gun-control laws, Moore said such laws will not stop mass killings because of “who we are” as a nation. “We are a country whose leaders officially sanction and carry out acts of violence as a means to often an immoral end,” Moore said. “We invade countries who didn't attack us. We're currently using drones in a half-dozen countries, often killing civilians.” “This probably shouldn't come as a surp

If Gun Control Works, Why Are Chicago’s Kids Getting Shot?

TPNN.COM 10 Hours Ago If Gun Control Works, Why Are Chicago’s Kids Getting Shot? While America is swept up in a wave of discussions circling around gun control issues, the media narrative has overwhelmingly framed the call for stricter gun control measures as much-needed reforms to create a safer place for children. As celebrities cry out for stricter gun control and as grandstanding politicians move to the forefront of the crowd to call for “common sense” hindrances upon gun ownership, all while shouting, “for the children,” the debate has boiled down to a question of what is logic-based and what is emotion-based. Everybody wants to stop gun violence. Everybody certainly does not want tragedy wrought upon innocent children. But many studies have shown that gun control measures are ineffective at stopping shootings by the hand of a criminal with mal-intent. Recently, The New Yorker, a bastion of liberal ideology since 1925, discussed the recent tragedy in Newtown and claimed

Gallup Poll: NRA Way More Popular Than the Media

JAMMIEWF.COM 1 Hour Ago Gallup Poll: NRA Way More Popular Than the Media Posted by Jammie on Dec 27, 2012 at 9:22 pm No wonder the media hates the NRA so much. They’re jealous of their popularity. Fifty-four percent of Americans have a favorable opinion of the National Rifle Association, while 38% have an unfavorable opinion. The public’s ratings of the NRA have fluctuated since first measured by Gallup in 1993 — from a low of 42% favorable in 1995 to a high of 60% in 2005. The NRA’s positions on guns and gun control legislation have received significant attention from media and politicians during the last week after the association’s top lobbyist, Wayne LaPierre, held a press conference in the wake of the Newtown school shooting. LaPierre denounced the idea of additional gun control legislation and instead called for armed guards in the nation’s schools. The press conference came midway through the field period of this Dec. 19-22 USA Today/Gallup poll. Let’s contrast that wi

Apparently, laws don’t apply to David Gregory

Gun Control Is Not the Answer

CHRISTIAN POST 8 Hours Ago Gun Control Is Not the Answer by  Greg Stier Opinion A Light in Dark Times Every year the week before Christmas, St. Peter's Church in Purcellville, VA ... December 27, 2012 | 10:26 am It is not. It may be an answer but it is not the answer. Preventing mentally unstable people from having easy access to automatic weapons may be part of an overall solution, but it is not the ultimate solution. With over 200 million privately held guns in America, it cannot possibly be THE solution. What happened at Sandy Hook Elementary School was at a level of malevolence beyond any earthly explanation or solution. Like a river of magma underneath the earth's crust, unimaginable evil burst forth that day, looking for a place to explode. Tragically it erupted in a school full of little children. Almost fourteen years ago this same brand of depravity exploded at Columbine High School, 25 minutes down the road from where I'm typing these words right now. It seems l

Gun control: Surge in support, new poll shows

LOS ANGELES TIMES 3 Hours Ago Gun control: Surge in support, new poll shows by  Matt Pearce Public support for stricter gun laws has leaped to its highest point in eight years with 58% now in favor, according to a USA Today/Gallup  poll  released Thursday. That's a 14-point jump from last year. Of those surveyed, 92% of Americans want background checks for buyers at gun shows and 62% want to ban magazines that carry more than 10 rounds, which  have played a frequent role  in mass shootings. But Americans still oppose a full ban on semi-automatic assault rifles 51% to 44%, and opposition to a full handgun ban is higher than it has ever been, at 74%. The poll was conducted with 1,038 respondents by phone over Dec. 19-22, with a 4% margin of error. Overall, some experts say mass shootings aren't  happening more often than usual , though 2012 has been a particularly bloody year for such attacks -- some of which have involved illegally obtained assault rifles .
