New Republic Claims NRA Power Diminished, Gun Ownership Declining, What??

AMMOLAND.COM 3 Hours Ago New Republic Claims NRA Power Diminished, Gun Ownership Declining, What?? Long lines and crowds at the 2013 NRA Annual Meeting AmmoLand Gun News Washington DC -  -( Ammoland.com )- Just over a month after the NRA won the the day when the Senate voted down a proposed gun control package on April 17 2013, the New Republic declares the NRA isn't as strong as you might think and gun ownership is actually on the decline. The New Republic  contends  that while the group has  "real clout,"  its power  "has been more a matter of entrenched wisdom than actual fact."  In other words, the NRA only looks strong because it has long been assumed strong. But in reality, individuals with an  "F rating"  from the NRA have won Senate and gubernatorial seats recently, demonstrating that the NRA isn't really that influential after all. To back up this claim, the New Republic quotes Sen. Chris Murphy (D-CT) as saying: " The NRA is just al

Judge denies delay, bars evidence in George Zimmerman trial

USNEWS.NBCNEWS.COM 2 Hours Ago Judge denies delay, bars evidence in George Zimmerman trial by  Tracy Connor By Tracy Connor, James Novogrod and Tom Winter, NBC News A Florida judge ruled Tuesday that George Zimmerman's defense team cannot mention Trayvon Martin's suspension from school, prior marijuana use, text messages or past fighting during opening statements at next month's trial. Judge Debra Nelson said that during the trial she will consider motions to admit details as evidence on a case-by-case basis, outside the presence of jurors who will decide if Zimmerman is guilty of second-degree murder in the shooting death of Martin. Capping a slew of rulings on pre-trial motions, Nelson rejected a defense request for a trial delay and ruled that jury selection will begin June 10. "This case has dragged on long enough," prosecutor Bernie de la Rionda said in arguing for the trial to start as scheduled. Over the course of two hours, Nelson granted numerous motions

Billionaire Mayor Michael Bloomberg is Trying to BUY Gun Control Legislation

GUNSSAVELIVES.NET 5 Hours Ago Billionaire Mayor Michael Bloomberg is Trying to BUY Gun Control Legislation If there was ever a case of the 0.0001% trying to control the rights of the entire country, this is it. For those that don't know, Michael Bloomberg, the extremely anti gun mayor of New York, is also one of the richest men in America with a net worth of approximately $27 billion (according to CelebrityNetWorth.com ). Bloomberg is dead set on using his fortune to make sure the rest of the country is disarmed while he enjoys the constant protection of an elite team of armed security. Currently, Bloomberg's super PAC is spending tens of millions of dollars to target pro gun senators on both sides of the aisle.   Most recently Bloomberg has turned his attention to Democratic senators who voted against last month's Toomey-Manchin background check legislation. The following video is targeted at Arkansas Democrat Mark Pryor. Some political  analysts  ar

NRA Leads Recall Efforts Against Anti-Gun Lawmakers in Colorado

THENEWAMERICAN.COM 4 Hours Ago NRA Leads Recall Efforts Against Anti-Gun Lawmakers in Colorado Anti-gun Democratic lawmakers in Colorado are facing recall bids from angry voters in what is believed to be the first phase in a number of fallouts over efforts to restrict gun rights expected to be seen across the country. New revelations indicate that the National Rifle Association has assumed a major role in the recall initiatives, focusing on Colorado State Senate President John Morse. CNN reports of Morse, He is facing a petition drive to initiate an election to recall him because of legislation passed this year in Colorado requiring universal background checks on sales of all firearms in the state, as well as a ban on the sale of ammunition magazines greater than 15 rounds. An NRA mailer  obtained  by CNN asks members to sign a petition for a recall election to vote Senator Morse out of office, with a deadline of June 3 for 7,178 signatures to be obtained. The NRA wrote that Morse &qu

Mayor Bloomberg's Gun Control Ads Put Democratic Party in a Bind

CHRISTIAN POST 3 Hours Ago Mayor Bloomberg's Gun Control Ads Put Democratic Party in a Bind Four Democratic senators voted against the gun control bill last month: Max Baucus (Mont.), Mark Begich (Alaska), Heidi Heitkamp (N.D.), and Mark Pryor (Ark.). (Majority Leader Harry Reid supported the bill but voted against it as a procedural matter so he can bring it to the floor again in the future.) Of the four defectors, Begich and Heitkamp are not up for re-election until 2016 and Baucus is retiring. This leaves Pryor, up for re-election next year, in the hot seat. If pro-gun control advocates wish to send a message to pro-gun rights Democrats, Pryor is the obvious choice. Mayors Against Illegal Guns, founded by Bloomberg, is running ads against Pryor based upon his vote on the gun control bill. "Tell Mark Pryor to take another look at background checks, because we're tired of being disappointed," says the woman in the ad who suffered the loss of a friend due to gun viol

Lessons of the New Gun Politics

LAWYERSGUNSMONEYBLOG.COM 3 Hours Ago Lessons of the New Gun Politics by  Erik Loomis I found Alec MacGillis' discussion of the new gun politics quite interesting . I'm not sure that we are seeing the death of the NRA here, but there's no question that continued support of background checks at gun shows is positive. From a political perspective, what's interesting is the tact that Bloomberg's gun-control group is taking. They simply don't care which party you are if you don't support background checks. There's been some talk of the wisdom of attacking Mark Pryor in an election year, since an Arkansas Republican won't be better on gun control and will be worse on a lot of other issues. But it might be that not caring about the short-term is the best way to play the long game. This is already causing anxiety among Democrats: Reid's office has pleaded with Bloomberg to lay off Pryor and Begich. ("What does Bloomberg care?" says the Senate

Gov. Haslam: No need for more state gun legislation

KNOX NEWS 2 Hours Ago Gov. Haslam: No need for more state gun legislation by  Tom Humphrey NASHVILLE —  Gov. Bill Haslam  said Tuesday he sees no need for any more gun legislation at the state level, but in general likes the idea advanced at the federal level of expanded background checks for firearm purchases. "I think we've addressed the gun laws we need to (address) in Tennessee right now," Haslam said in answering a question posed from the audience at the American Legion Auxiliary Volunteer Girls State. He cited as a capstone of state gun laws legislation signed into law earlier this year that allows handgun permit holders to keep their weapons in a locked vehicle almost anywhere, including the parking lot of employers who prohibit guns on their property. But at the federal level, the governor said he was open to at least one change. "I think there has to be a better way to do background checks. ... It makes sense and I think we can do it without infringing on p

Issa No Longer Pulls Punches – Issues Subpoena Of Obama State Department Over Benghazi

THEULSTERMANREPORT.COM 2 Hours Ago Issa No Longer Pulls Punches – Issues Subpoena Of Obama State Department Over Benghazi Some may not fully understand or appreciate just how much this move will elevate the situation between the Obama White House and Congress regarding the still ongoing Benghazi Massacre cover up.  A formal subpoena of the Obama State Department, specifically calling for cooperation from current Secretary of State John Kerry, is a bold move by Congressman Darrell Issa.  It appears the gloves are truly coming off… (Issa wants answers while Barack Obama continues to cover them up.)  _____________________________________ (via HotAir:) Republicans on the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee have been insisting that, despite their indignant insistence to the contrary, the Obama administration still has plenty of explaining to do and needs to release more documents relating to the deadly terrorist attack in Benghazi last September and the subsequent talking-point
