No Justice Stevens, "High-Powered Automatic Weapons" were not used in Newtown

Shared from Zite   John Hames shared with you:   No Justice Stevens, "High-Powered Automatic Weapons" were not used in Newtown joshblackman.com - Justice Stevens has a new Op-Ed promoting his new book about Six Amendments to add to the Constitution (I listed them here). There is a glaring error in the first sentence. No. There were no "high-powered automatic weapons." A semi-automatic rifle was used. Automatic weapons are illegal under federal law. Semi-automatic rifles are legal. And those rulings predate Heller. I appreciate that he does not agree with Scalia about the nature of the Second Amendment, but at least get your facts right. Stabbings at Pennsylvania school add a new wrinkle to gun debate

Shared from Zite   John Hames shared with you:   Stabbings at Pennsylvania school add a new wrinkle to gun debate Los Angeles Times - The novelty of Wednesday's knife attack on students at a suburban Pittsburgh high school provides a new debating point in America's endless argument about guns. Proponents of an unrestricted right to own and carry all types of firearms will point to this incident and say it proves that any weapon is dangerous and that gun owners should not be singled out and shackled by government regulation. They will also insist that if there had been guns available to teachers and administrators at Franklin Regional Senior High School, where the stabbings took place, someone could have stopped the 16-year-old perpetrator as soon as he initiated his attacks.

Tennessee: House Subcommittee to Hear Park Carry Bill Early Next Week Having awaited passage of the state Budget,  House Bill 1407  is expected to be considered in the House Finance, Ways and Means Subcommittee as early as  Monday, April 14.   It is imperative that you contact subcommittee members TODAY and respectfully urge them to vote "YES" on HB 1407. Sponsored by state Representative Tilman Goins (R-10), HB 1407 would allow law-abiding Tennesseans with a Handgun Carry Permit (HCP) to carry a firearm into all state, city, county and municipal parks.  Current Tennessee law allows a municipality or county to prohibit the possession of handguns, and therefore one's right to self-defense, while within a public park, natural area, historic park, nature trail, campground, forest, greenway, waterway or other similar public place that is owned or operated by a county or municipality.  This law poses a problem for citizens by creating a patchwork of laws across the state with
