BREAKING: Illinois Supreme Court Rules Right to Keep and Bear Arms Extends Outside the Home

THETRUTHABOUTGUNS.COM 9 Hours Ago BREAKING: Illinois Supreme Court Rules Right to Keep and Bear Arms Extends Outside the Home by  Robert Farago The Illinois Supreme Court has just ruled in the case of Alberto Aguilar v. The People of the State of Illinois. Click  here  for the brief. Click  here  to read the Law Center to Prevent Gun Violence's brief arguing that "the carrying of firearms in public places creates serious public safety risks." Click  here  for the Illinois Supreme Court's ruling. As follows: "The principal issue in this case is whether section 24-1.6(a)(1), (a)(3)(A) of the Illinois aggravated unlawful use of weapons (AUUW) statute (720 ILCS 5/24-1.6(a)(1), (a)(3)(A) (West 2008)) violates the right to keep and bear arms, as guaranteed by the second amendment to the United States Constitution (U.S.Const., amend. II). We hold that it does." In other words, they've turfed the law against bearing weapons outside the home. As you'd expect

New York Sheriffs to Gov Cuomo: Enforce your own gun laws, because we won’t

BEARINGARMS.COM 7 Hours Ago New York Sheriffs to Gov Cuomo: Enforce your own gun laws, because we won't Reason  knocks this one  out of the park : People tend to forget that the state of New York is really at least two distinct entities: the city and its surrounding bedroom communities on the one hand, and the rest of the state on the other. Earlier this year, Governor Andrew Cuomo (smirking at right) and the urban contingent rammed through  new gun restrictions  that were so well-crafted that lawmakers had to quickly revisit the legislation to  exempt law-enforcement officers  and to revise the law's requirement for (almost non-existent) seven-round magazines to accommodate ten-round magazines into which  state residents are only allowed to load seven cartridges . (Watching New York government in action is less like seeing sausage being made and more like observing chimpanzees mold mud pies.) Now the rest of the state is having its say. Upstate sheriffs, under pressure from e

Chicago Rescinds Law for Gun Owners to Register Weapons

BET.COM 2 Hours Ago Chicago Rescinds Law for Gun Owners to Register Weapons by  Jonathan P. Hicks The  Chicago City Council  voted to rescind the requirement for gun owners to register their weapons with local agencies, a move to comply with changes in state law. The council made the move reluctantly, and passed a law that banned concealed weapons in businesses that served alcoholic beverages. The change in the law regarding gun registration is one that many officials worry will affect the ability of law enforcement officials to track guns in the nation's third-largest city. It is a city that has been a nationwide focus of  continued gun violence , particularly in the predominantly Black and Latino South and West sides. The council also voted to enact far more stringent penalties for people who commit crimes with guns with within 100 feet of city public transportation centers. The new law creates "public transportation safety zones," which are to be an extension of the &

Bad news: Colorado Democrat defeated in recall election over gun control not taking it well

HOTAIR.COM 1 Hour Ago Bad news: Colorado Democrat defeated in recall election over gun control not taking it well posted at 6:41 pm on September 12, 2013 by Allahpundit Via  the Corner . Tuesday night, expecting a close race, I couldn't believe that she lost by 12 points. Now, after watching her for the first time, I can't believe she lost by only 12 points. She's got one argument here — "voter suppression," ripped straight from the  DNC's talking points memo , which is completely destroyed by her own now-famous admission a few weeks ago that if Bloomberg and his anti-gun group couldn't buy her a victory in this race,  "they might as well fold it up."  They did their best for her; as  Erika noted earlier, gun-grabbers outspent gun-rights supporters overwhelmingly. If that kind of money can't get gun-control fans to drive to the polls, in a state where there was a horrendous mass shooting barely more than a year ago, maybe the votes simply ar

A bittersweet day for gun rights

RARE.US 10 Hours Ago A bittersweet day for gun rights Late Tuesday evening  news broke  that CO voters had for the first time in their state's history recalled two sitting politicians: Senate Majority Leader John Morse of Colorado Springs, and state Senator Angela Giron of Pueblo. The impetus for the recall vote were the restrictive anti-Second Amendment laws passed by the Democrat majority. The new law was lauded by prominent progressive figures nationally but within the state the mood was very different, prompting one prominent manufacturing business to leave the state. Kelly Maher, Executive Director of Revealing Politics, which played a critical role in Colorado's recall fight, Doug Smith, COO of MagPul said, "If we're able to stay in Colorado and manufacture a product, but law-abiding citizens of the state were unable to purchase the product, customers around the state and the nation would boycott us for remaining here." When the law passed MagPul announced

Ted Cruz

CRUZ.SENATE.GOV 1 Hour Ago Ted Cruz Contact:   press@cruz.senate.gov / (202) 228-7561Thursday, September 12, 2013 In today's  New York Times , the once and future Russian president Vladimir Putin critiqued President Obama's remarks regarding Syria on Tuesday night. He took particular issue with the end of the President's statement: "But when, with modest effort and risk, we can stop children from being gassed to death, and thereby make our own children safer over the long run, I believe we should act. That's what makes America different. That's what makes us exceptional." Mr. Putin worries that it is "extremely dangerous" for the President to encourage the Americans to see themselves as exceptional. His concern is well placed. Historically it has not boded well for autocrats when Americans are clearly focused on the values and principles that have made our nation great: When millions of men, women and children were being systematically murdered

Virginia Authorities Investigating Potential Voter Fraud

FREEBEACON.COM 3 Hours Ago Virginia Authorities Investigating Potential Voter Fraud by  Lachlan Markay AP BY:  Lachlan Markay Follow @lachlan  September 12, 2013 4:24 pm Authorities in Virginia are investigating a potential voter fraud case involving former congressional candidate Jeffrey Barnett, an active member of the Democratic Party and supporter of gubernatorial candidate Terry McAuliffe. According a  letter  from the state's office of elections obtained by the  Washington Free Beacon , Riccardo and Vivian Bellucci voted in 2012 elections in Fairfax County, Va., even though they appeared to live in Annapolis, Md. at the time. The Virginia address the Belluccis gave poll workers is the home of Jeffrey Barnett and his wife Katherine. Barnett ran for the U.S. House of Representatives in 2010, losing to incumbent Rep. Frank Wolf (R., Va.) by about 28 points. Barnett staked out numerous left-wing positions during the campaign. He  supported Obamacare, the 2009 stimulus bill, cap-

Report: 'Highly Sensitive' US Weapons Stolen in Libya During Terrorist Raids

TOWNHALL.COM 5 Hours Ago Report: 'Highly Sensitive' US Weapons Stolen in Libya During Terrorist Raids Is it possible for the United States to look any weaker in the eyes of the world than it has  throughout  the Syria spectacle? If  Fox News' sources  are accurate, it sure is. When it rains, it pours: Highly sensitive U.S. military equipment stored in Libya was stolen over the summer by groups likely aligned and working with terrorist organizations, State Department sources told Fox News -- in raids that contributed to the decision to pull Special Forces personnel from the country. The stolen equipment had been used by U.S. Special Forces stationed in the country. Lost in the raids in late July and early August were dozens of M4 rifles, night-vision technology and lasers used as aiming devices that are mounted on guns and can only be seen with night-vision equipment.  "This stuff is how we win wars. The enemy doesn't have that," one source said.  The overnigh

Forty-three House Republicans back bill to defund ObamaCare

THEHILL.COM 3 Hours Ago Forty-three House Republicans back bill to defund ObamaCare by  Elise Viebeck Tweet Forty-three House Republicans on Thursday endorsed legislation that would keep the government open while defunding ObamaCare. The sponsorship total reveals that there is a significant bloc of opposition to a plan from GOP leaders that would avoid a government shutdown by requiring that the Senate take a vote on the healthcare law. Conservatives decried that plan as a "gimmick," forcing House Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-Va.) and his team to push back a vote until at least next week. The new measure from Rep. Tom Graves (R-Ga.) gives House conservatives the hardline approach they have been seeking by tying the extension of basic government funding to a one-year delay in ObamaCare. It comes just two days after House GOP leadership pitched to their conference a gambit that would require the Senate to vote on a bill defunding ObamaCare before passing a continuing resolut
