MSNBC Continues To Push One-Sided Gun Control ‘Debate

NEWS BUSTERS 7 Hours Ago MSNBC Continues To Push One-Sided Gun Control ‘Debate’ by Jeffrey Meyer In what has become a daily theme, once again, MSNBC is pushing a one-sided discussion on gun control. Speaking on Monday, January 28 with Dan Gross, the President of the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence, and Rep. Jackie Speier (D-Calif.), host Thomas Roberts continued to lobby for congressional action for strict gun control. Naturally, Roberts failed to bring on a pro-gun rights advocate nor to feature one in a subsequent segment. Roberts set up Gross to slam the NRA by asking his opinion on the gun safety program. Gross, of course, swung for the fences at this softball: Roberts continued the segment by trying to paint pro-gun rights individuals as having an irrational fear of gun control: As with the majority of gun control segments on MSNBC, no pro-gun representatives are ever invited on to speak on behalf of the Second Amendment. Instead, Roberts has continued the long

Marco Rubio says after D.C. passed gun laws, 'violence skyrocketed

POLITIFACT 5 Hours Ago Marco Rubio says after D.C. passed gun laws, 'violence skyrocketed' by Becky Bowers Do gun laws work? As lawmakers consider President Barack Obama's call to take action against gun violence after mass shootings in Connecticut, Colorado, Wisconsin and Arizona, some argue new rules won’t help. Sen. Marco Rubio, a Florida Republican, told Fox News that Obama’s plan — which proposes steps such as closing background check loopholes and banning military-style assault weapons and high-capacity magazines — is "not going to solve the problem." "Washington, D.C. had some of the strictest gun laws in the country," Rubio told host Brian Kilmeade on Jan. 17, 2013. "And when they passed them, violence skyrocketed." We wanted to know: Did violence leap after the nation’s capital cracked down on guns? Unprotected citizens In 1976, the District of Columbia required all guns to be registered, banned new handguns and requir

City's Homicide Rate In January Already At 40

HUFFINGTON POST 1 Hour Ago City's Homicide Rate In January Already At 40 CHICAGO -- A bloody weekend in which seven people were killed and six wounded has put an abrupt end – at least for now – to hopes that Chicago was at least putting a lid on his frightening homicide rate. With a few days left in the month, the nation's third-largest city now finds itself on the cusp of its deadliest January in more than a decade. The news comes just after Police Superintendent Garry McCarthy had announced that after several violent months, Chicago had seen a drop in homicides at the end of 2012 and for the first few weeks of 2013. Police say the homicide rate is a reflection of the city's gang problem and a proliferation of guns. Chicago has for years tried to cut off the flow of guns. It has what city officials have called the strictest handgun ordinance in the U.S. But police officials say more needs to be done and that penalties for violating gun laws should be stiffer. Amo

Lies and elitism plague gun control proponents

EXAMINER.COM 2 Hours Ago Lies and elitism plague gun control proponents by Anthony Martin Although it is highly premature for gun rights advocates to celebrate the fact that Barack Obama's initiative for gun bans has hit a significant snag in Congress, the proponents of the bans are plagued by lies and elitism that has hurt their cause. Perhaps the biggest untruth being perpetrated by Obama, Sen. Dianne Feinstein, Mayor Michael Bloomberg, Rep. Steny Hoyer, the mainstream media, and others who are pushing severe restrictions on the Second Amendment is that they "are not seeking to take guns away from citizens." The goal, so they say, is to ban "military grade assault weapons." The statement is fragrantly false. It is already illegal for civilians to purchase and possess military grade weapons, and it is already illegal for licensed firearms dealers to sell them. Military grade assault weapons are fully automatic. That means that by simply squeezing t

Politics: Father of Sandy Hook victim speaks: 'the problem is not gun laws'

CAINTV.COM 3 Hours Ago Politics: Father of Sandy Hook victim speaks: 'the problem is not gun laws' by Robert Laurie By ROBERT LAURIE: An exceptionally brave plea for common decency Mark Mattioli is the father of James Mattioli, a six-year-old victim killed in the Sandy Hook shooting. Earlier today, he spoke before a gun violence task force in Hartford, Connecticut, and his remarks may not have been what people were expecting. "I think there's much more promise for a solution in identifying, researching, and creating solutions along the lines of mental health," he said. "I think there's a lot of work that can be done there." He went on to argue that "The problem is not gun laws. The problem is a lack of civility. So, I'm 42. 25 years ago - OK - I was allowed to go see an R -rated movie. The violence that I saw in that movie pales in comparison to what you see on TV today - just normal TV. 14 year olds are out there watching Law
