A quote from Ronald Regan

"There are those in America today who have come to depend absolutely on government for their security. And when government fails they seek to rectify that failure in the form of granting government more power. So, as government has failed to control crime and violence with the means given it by the Constitution, they seek to give it more power at the expense of the Constitution. But in doing so, in their willingness to give up their arms in the name of safety, they are really giving up their protection from what has always been the chief source of despotism -- government."

Gun Control by Executive Order

PATRIOTUPDATE.COM 6 Hours Ago Gun Control by Executive Order by Jan Morgan Vice President Joe Biden, who has been charged by President Obama with running the task force to prevent situations like the Sandy Hook massacre, announced that he wouldn’t be raising legislative solutions at all. Instead, he said that President Obama might simply declare his preferred gun policy the law of the nation. Talking to the drooling press, Biden announced, “The president is going to act. There are executive orders, there’s executive action that can be taken. We haven’t decided what that is yet. But we’re compiling it all with the help of the attorney general and the rest of the cabinet members as well as legislative action that we believe is required.” Biden stated, “As the president said, if your actions result in only saving one life, they’re worth taking. But I’m convinced we can affect the well-being of millions of Americans and take thousands of people out of harm’s way if we act respon

Bill Clinton: Gun control opposition ‘is nuts’

RAW STORY 3 Hours Ago Bill Clinton: Gun control opposition ‘is nuts’ by Eric W. Dolan By Eric W. DolanWednesday, January 9, 2013 19:19 EST Former President Bill Clinton on Wednesday said those who opposed gun control measures like banning the sale of high-capacity magazines were crazy. “I grew up in the hunting culture, but this is nuts,” he said during a speech at the Consumer Electronics Show. “Why does anybody need a 30 round clip for a gun? Why does anybody need one of those things that carries 100 bullets? The guy in Colorado had one of those.” “Half of all mass killings in the United States have occurred since the assault weapons ban expired in 2005,” Clinton continued. “Half, in all of the history of the country. So I hope that former Congresswoman Gabby Giffords (D-AZ) and other people who stepped up after the Newtown tragedy will have some impact on this.” The former President also addressed the NRA’s proposal to prevent school shootings by hiring armed guards to p

GOP Rep. Jeff Duncan: Obama Using Executive Order On Gun Control Smacks Of “Dictatorship”…

WEASELZIPPERS.US 2 Hours Ago GOP Rep. Jeff Duncan: Obama Using Executive Order On Gun Control Smacks Of “Dictatorship”… Sure does. Via TPM: The gloves are officially off in the gun control fight in Washington. After Vice President Biden reiterated the White House intention to use executive power to reduce gun violence following the Newtown shooting, a Republican congressman warned on Wednesday the idea sounded like “dictatorship” to him. It’s a handy reminder that all the gun control talk following Newtown could run into smack into the same kind of congressional opposition that’s scuttled many big legislative projects since the Republican takeover of the House in 2010. It’s also another sign that the tough rhetoric is back on guns after the Newtown lull. “The Founding Fathers never envisioned Executive Orders being used to restrict our Constitutional rights,” Rep. Jeff Duncan (R-SC) said in a statement Wednesday. “We live in a republic, not a dictatorship.”

Georgia mother who shot intruder inspires opponents of gun control

FOX NEWS 2 Hours Ago Georgia mother who shot intruder inspires opponents of gun control LOGANVILLE, Ga. – A Georgia mother who shot an intruder at her home has become a small part of the roaring gun control debate, with some firearms enthusiasts touting her as a textbook example of responsible gun ownership. Melinda Herman grabbed a handgun and hid in a crawl space with her two children when a man broke in last week and approached the family at their home northeast of Atlanta, police said. Herman called her husband on the phone, and with him reminding her of the lessons she recently learned at a shooting range, Herman opened fire, seriously wounding the burglary suspect. The National Rifle Association tweeted a link to a news story about the shooting, and support poured in from others online, hailing Herman as a hero. The local sheriff said he was proud of the way she handled the situation. "This lady decided that she wasn't going to be a victim, and I think everyon

Daily Show host Jon Stewart railed against opposition to address the gun control debate in a meaningful way. He declared the time to talk about guns is now. “Finally, everyone from the NRA to the Marin County Kumbaya Patrol, is ready to talk about gun violence – although, to be fair, the Kumbaya Patrol has been ready for quite time now,” he said on Tuesday’s show. The Comedy Central host slammed right-wing conservatives for blaming “non-gun causes of gun violence” in the aftermath of such shootings as the recent massacre at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut; he showed clips of gun advocacy pundits blaming video games, Hollywood and even personal sinning instead of discussing ways of tackling the issue head on. He compared the gun control issue to the drunk driving

BREITBART.COM 4 Hours Ago Biden: President Will Use Executive Order To Enact Gun Laws VICE PRESIDENT JOE BIDEN: I want to make it clear that we are not going to get caught up in the notion, "unless we can do everything, we're going to do nothing." It's critically important we act and there's certain things I know a great deal about. Almost all of your organizations, I've read what you have published and spoken to and there is a pretty wide consensus or three or four or five things in the gun safety area that could and should be done around this table. You should know that tomorrow I've also invited the gun owners and the NRA to come and make their case, as well, before us. I want it clear to the American public that, on behalf of the President, we're reaching out to all -- all parties on whatever side of this debate you fall. But the president is going to act. Legal gun saves 2-month-old child

HUMAN EVENTS 4 Hours Ago Legal gun saves 2-month-old child by John Hayward Here’s some more of the data you’re not supposed to consider while the deeply corrupt gun-control crusade marches on, courtesy of WBNS-TV in Ohio: A Columbus man said that he fought back when a man tried to rob him at gunpoint in west Columbus Monday night. Kelby Smith, 34, told police he was in the driveway of the home on Crescent Drive just before 9 p.m. when he was approached by a robber. White House is wrong: First Amendment doesn’t protect Piers Morgan from deportation

DAILYCALLER.COM 3 Hours Ago White House is wrong: First Amendment doesn’t protect Piers Morgan from deportation by Patrick Howley White House press secretary Jay Carney issued a factually incorrect response Wednesday to the White House petition to deport British-born CNN host Piers Morgan, wrongly claiming that Morgan, who has launched repeated televised attacks on the Second Amendment, is protected from deportation by the First Amendment. “Let’s not let arguments over the Constitution’s Second Amendment violate the spirit of its First,” Carney wrote in response to the petition, which has collected more than 100,000 signatures from patriotic Americans. “President Obama believes that the Second Amendment guarantees an individual right to bear arms. However, the Constitution not only guarantees an individual right to bear arms, but also enshrines the freedom of speech and the freedom of the press — fundamental principles that are essential to our democracy,” Carney wrote. Just 44 percent say Obama should control gun laws

WASHINGTON EXAMINER 2 Hours Ago Just 44 percent say Obama should control gun laws by Gertrude Himmelfarb Three-quarters of the public back gun ownership, and many feel that President Obama should dump his gun-control plans because only states should regulate the weapons, according to a new Rasmussen Reports poll. The poll is a double-barrelled blast at the president. Not only does it reaffirm the public's support for Second Amendment rights, it shows no change in their views despite the horrific shootings last month at the Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Conn. Rasmussen did find support for some tougher rules on gun ownership. For example, 56 percent believe that someone who commits a crime using a gun should receive a longer prison sentence. But support for guns is also strong. Seventy four percent believe the Constitution guarantees the right of gun ownership. Also, 75 percent believe it is "morally acceptable" to have a gun in the home. And as Oba

ECONOMIC TIMES 6 Hours Ago Wal-Mart will meet with Joe Biden gun task force on Thursday Wal-Mart Stores Inc said on Wednesday it would send a representative to Washington to meet with Vice President Joe Biden on Thursday to share the company's position on the responsible sale of firearms. At first, Wal-Mart was not going to send anyone to Biden's meeting, saying its senior leaders could not be in Washington this week and that it spoke in advance with Biden's office to share its perspective, spokesman David Tovar said. "We underestimated the expectation to attend the meeting on Thursday in person, so we are sending an appropriate representative to participate," Tovar added. After December's Newtown, Connecticut, school shooting, which President Barack Obama called the worst day of his presidency, he asked Biden to come up with a broad range of ideas to curb the nation's gun violence. POLITICKER.COM 2 Hours Ago Cuomo Vows to ‘Enact the Toughest Assault Weapon in the Nation, Period!’ by Colin Campbell By Colin Campbell and Hunter Walker 3:19pm One of the most hotly-anticipated elements of Governor Andrew Cuomo’s annual State of the State address today was his plan to enact “sweeping” gun control reforms in New York. In his speech, the governor outlined a seven-point gun control plan focused on “high capacity assault rifles” that he promised would be one of the “toughest” in that nation and lead similar laws to spread beyond New York. “Gun violence has been on a rampage as we know firsthand and as we know painfully,” said the governor. “We must stop the madness, my friends. In one word it’s just ‘enough.’ It has been enough. We need a gun policy in this state that is reasonable, that is balanced, that is measured.” The governor continued by saying his gun control proposals are not about “taking away people’s guns.” As he has in the past, the governor tried
