Texas Mayors Oppose Rick Perry on Gun Control

HUFFINGTON POST 3 Hours Ago Texas Mayors Oppose Rick Perry on Gun Control by Brandon Friedman Governor Rick Perry has a tendency to give America the impression that Texas is a rogue state, filled with fundamentalists and anti-tax secessionists. He frequently feeds the stereotype that cowboy hat-wearing businessmen wear six-shooters on the way to work. Last week, in response to President Obama's new gun proposals, Governor Perry accused the President of using the Newtown massacre "to advance a pre-existing political agenda," adding that it "disgusts" him. He went on to say that the Second Amendment "cannot be nor will it be abridged by the executive power of this or any other president." Governor Perry wants you to think that this is just how Texas is. But while Governor Perry's rhetoric is in line with the National Rifle Association, it turns out that he's out of step with the people who administer his four largest cities -- the mayo

THEINTELHUB.COM 2 Hours Ago School Shooting in Texas Injures at Least Three As Calls for Strict Gun Control Gear Up SHADE the Motion Picture - An Ambellas & Bermas Film — Watch NEW Trailer 3 By Sarah Dee theintelhub.com January 22, 2012 A shooting has occurred on a Texas campus, injuring three and sending dozens others running for cover. When shots broke out earlier today at Lone Star College, one of the largest of Houston’s many school systems, students barricaded themselves inside their classrooms putting desks in front of the doors. Reuters reports: “Student Amanda Vasquez said she was waiting for an English class to start in a campus building when she heard shots. “I heard about 6 shots … Kids started rushing down the hallway. It really happened so fast,” she told CNN news.” This latest shooting will no doubt cause another merry-go-round of gun control mania in the media. It is hard to foresee a favorable solution for people on either side of this issue. Reut

A Majority Of Americans Support Obama's Gun Control Package: Poll

HUFFINGTON POST 2 Hours Ago A Majority Of Americans Support Obama's Gun Control Package: Poll by Emily Swanson More Americans support than oppose President Barack Obama's suite of proposals to reduce gun violence, but many are skeptical that they would be effective at preventing future mass shootings, according to a new HuffPost/YouGov poll. Forty-six percent of respondents to the survey said they either strongly or somewhat favor the proposals, while 40 percent were strongly or somewhat opposed. Support for the proposals was deeply divided along party lines: Democrats favored the proposals 77 percent to 11 percent, while Republicans opposed 77 percent to 12 percent. Independents were more likely to oppose than to favor the proposals, 47 percent to 34 percent. A Gallup poll released last week also found more support than opposition to the proposals, with 52 percent saying they would want their representative in Congress to vote for the proposals and 41 percent saying th

Sen. Dianne Feinstein to introduce assault weapons ban on Thursday

DAILYBULLETIN.COM 3 Hours Ago Sen. Dianne Feinstein to introduce assault weapons ban on Thursday Sen. Dianne Feinstein, D-California, is set to introduce her bill to reinstate a federal assault weapons ban on Thursday. Feinstein announced her plans to introduce the ban after December's mass shooting in Newtown, Conn. President Barack Obama has also called for a ban on weapons that resemble military firearms. The bill will call for the prohibition of 120 specific weapons, magazines that can carry more than 10 cartridges and firearms that can accept a detachable magazine in addition to at least one other military-style feature. Feinstein's office has also revealed that while the bill would not mandate the confiscation of pre-ban weapons, it would require registration of any grandfathered weapons. Feinstein's bill promises to be at the center of one of the biggest political fights of 2013 and her bill will likely meet serious opposition in the Republican-controlled Ho

Poll: Americans want gun law enforcement, not new gun laws

Poll: Americans want gun law enforcement, not new gun laws  37  While President Obama and his liberal buddies call for more gun legislation, the American people think enforcement of current laws is more important.According to a new Rasmussen poll, 57 percent of Americans think “stricter enforcement of existing gun control laws” is more important than creating new gun laws.Only 32 percent of those polled think creation of new gun control laws is more important than stricter enforcement. The remaining 11 percent were unsure. In the wake of the Sandy Hook shooting, President Obama introduced 23 new proposals on gun control and restrictions. Senior White House advisor David Plouffe recently called them “commonsense proposals” with “enormous support” from the American people.Yet if the POTUS really wants to listen to what the people want, he needs to face the fact that enforcement — not legislation — is the word of the day.The Rasmussen survey of 1,000 American adults was conducted over th

Tell the Truth About “Assault Weapons” By Defending the Second Amendment

Tell the Truth About “Assault Weapons” By Defending the Second Amendment 01/22/20131 Comment by Gabriella HoffmanIn the weeks following the Sandy Hook massacre, President Obama and his supporters have come together to push for more restrictions on the Second Amendment. Last Wednesday, Obama-surrounded by children so as to not let a “crisis go to waste”-called for more gun control in the form of universal background checks, limits to high capacity magazines, and a renewal of the 1993 Federal Assault Weapons Ban. His directive includes 23 executive orders. The rabidly anti-gun hysteria emanating from the Left should concern you. Fox News Insider recently reported on a story about a 5 year-old girl suspended from school for threatening to shoot her classmate with a Hello Kitty toy gun that shoots bubbles.  It reads, “The Mount Carmel Area Elementary School originally suspended the child for 10 days for making what they called a "terroristic threat." The punishment was later red

Democrats who have come out against the evils of guns since the tragedy at Sandy Hook Elementary have also made money by investing in gun companies.

Several Democrats who have come out against the evils of guns since the tragedy at Sandy Hook Elementary have also made money by investing in gun companies. Many are still making money with investments in those manufacturers now, even as they attempt to ban their products.  Senator Amy Klobuchar (D-MN), for example, is a proponent of an "assault weapons" ban, who in the meantime is enjoying the money her husband makes off a $50,000 investment in the Vanguard Small Cap Growth Index fund. As of Jan. 18, that fund included 219,918 shares of stock in Ruger Firearms.Meanwhile, Senator Clair McCaskill (D-MO) has approximately $100,000 in the iShare Russell 2000 Growth Index. That fund held 254,290 shares of stock in Ruger Firearms as of Jan. 18, along with shares of Smith & Wesson as well.Senator Tom Harkin (D-IA) has approximately $100,000 in the iShares S&P Small Cap 600 Growth Index--a fund which was the "the 16th largest holder" of Ruger Firearms stock as of
