Gov. John Hickenlooper, a Democrat in a Western state where gun-control issues are politically sensitive, signed the law exactly eight months after a gunman shot up a movie theater in Aurora, Colo., killing 12 people and injuring about 70. The signing of the tough Colorado bill comes a day after Majority Leader Harry Reid dropped California Sen. The group spent nearly all of the money it brought in during the month in support of Robin Kelly or against Deborah Halvorson in the House special primary election to replace former Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr., in Illinois. With Bloomberg’s support, Kelly defeated the National Rifle Association-friendly Halvorson 52 percent to 25 percent. His four checks to Independence USA in February bring his total contributions to the group to about $12 million. Bloomberg formed the group in October of 2012 to back candidates that support gun control reform, among other issues.
