SALON.COM 3 Hours Ago Texas GOPer threatens impeachment over executive action on guns by Jillian Rayfield Topics: Video, Gun Control, Impeachment, Gun Violence, House Republicans, Barack Obama, Texas, Steve Stockman, Politics News If President Obama uses an executive order to pass gun control measures, a Texas Republican says he could file articles of impeachment. Rep. Steve Stockman, R-Texas, called a potential executive action “an unconstitutional and unconscionable attack on the very founding principles of this republic,” after the President said in a press conference that there are a number of steps he can take through executive action to implement gun control, should Congress fail to act. “The White House’s recent announcement they will use executive orders and executive actions to infringe on our constitutionally-protected right to keep and bear arms is an unconstitutional and unconscionable attack on the very founding principles of this republic,” Stockman said in the

How False Urgency Produces Stupid Gun Laws

REASON MAGAZINE 6 Hours Ago How False Urgency Produces Stupid Gun Laws by Jacob Sullum "Connecticut has changed things," says Rep. Frank Wolf (R-Va.). "I don't know what we're going to do, but we're going to do something." Wolf is talking about violent video games, but his attitude is sadly common among politicians a month after the massacre at Sandy Hook Elementary School, no matter which scapegoat they prefer. Taking their cues from that vapid video featuring celebrities demanding "a plan to end gun violence," legislators seem to agree it does not really matter what they do, as long as they do it quickly. First out of the gate is New York, where Democrats and Republicans are putting the finishing touches on a package of new gun restrictions demanded less than a week ago by Gov. Andrew Cuomo. The New York Timesreports that it will include a broader definition of forbidden "assault weapons" (mirroring California's) and a new

WEASELZIPPERS.US 5 Hours Ago Biden Delivers List Of Gun Control Recommendations, Obama To Unveil Plans Later This Week… There’s a distinct possibility Obama’s dictator-like anti-gun executive orders could be issued this week. Via Politico: President Barack Obama on Monday said that Vice President Joe Biden has presented him with a list of recommendations to reduce gun violence, and he is reviewing them before unveiling what he plans to do later in the week. He said Biden and other cabinet members have gone through a very thorough process during the past month gathering input from stakeholders. “They’ve presented me now with a list of sensible common-sense steps that can be taken,” Obama said during a news conference. “I expect to have a fuller presentation later in the week.”

'Centrist' News Network? CNN Loads Programming With Gun Control Advocates

NEWS BUSTERS 3 Hours Ago 'Centrist' News Network? CNN Loads Programming With Gun Control Advocates by Matt Hadro One month after the Newtown shooting, CNN "commemorated" the atrocity by hosting a string of gun control activists and Democratic politicians pushing for stricter gun laws. From the 5 a.m. through the 3 p.m. news hours, CNN hosted five guests who had participated in the "Demand a Plan" campaign put on by the anti-gun group Mayors Against Illegal Guns. In addition, two Democratic congressmen and one Democratic senator appeared on the network and pushed for more gun laws. Only one Republican made an appearance to argue to the contrary. Of the five CNN guests participating in the "Demand a Plan" campaign, three of them also worked for gun control advocacy organizations. Stephen Barton is a policy and outreach assistant at Mayors Against Illegal Guns. Colin Goddard works for the Brady Campaign Against Gun Violence. Lori Haas works fo

Harry Reid Calls For ‘Cautious’ Approach On Guns: Assault Weapons Ban Not Likely To Pass

MEDIAITE 2 Hours Ago Harry Reid Calls For ‘Cautious’ Approach On Guns: Assault Weapons Ban Not Likely To Pass by Anjali Sareen Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid said this week that any new gun control legislation will be written with an eye toward passage in both houses of Congress. Reid believes an assault weapons ban may be able to pass the Senate, but would be killed in the house. Speaking on Nevada Week In Review, a news show on the Vegas PBS affiliate, Reid discussed a new ban: “Is it something that can pass the Senate? Maybe. Is it something that can pass the House? I doubt it. So I think there are things that we know we can do.” RELATED: GOP Rep. Threatens Impeachment Over Obama’s Possible Executive Order On Gun Control Reid, who has an ‘A’ rating from the National Rifle Association, said that there is “too much violence” in our society which is “not just from guns,” but also from television, movies and video games. He did note, however, that although no one wants to “

Ex-NYC mayor: Ban all guns

WND Exclusive Ex-NYC mayor: Ban all guns 'I don't believe that in our society we should have guns' Published: 10 hours ago Aside from regulated hunting exceptions and those individuals who are deemed in danger by the police commissioner, all U.S. civilians should be banned from owning any kind of gun, argued former New York City Mayor Ed Koch in a radio interview today. “I don’t believe that in our society that we should have guns,” said Koch, a Democrat, speaking on New York WABC Radio’s “Aaron Klein Investigative Radio.” Continued Koch: “If I had my way I would pass such a law except to allow hunting and target practice and you lay out safety precautions for that. “And if you need a gun because the police commissioner thinks your life is in danger, which is the way you can get a concealed gun (in New York) today, it’s called the Sullivan Law, you have to have the permission of the police commissioner.” “So subject to those modifications,” he stated,
