NRA Chief Sees Battle Against Gun Control As Far From Over

TPMDC 4 Hours Ago NRA Chief Sees Battle Against Gun Control As Far From Over by Pema Levy Pema LevyMarch 15, 2013, 12:41 PM To listen to the head of the National Rifle Association tell it, the battle over gun control is as dire as ever despite signs legislation in Congress is on the ropes. During a fired up speech Friday at the Conservative Political Action Conference, NRA Executive Vice President and CEO Wayne LaPierre offered no sign that the organization feels confident it has successfully blocked new regulations. He practically begged conference attendees to remain vigilant against coming gun laws, including background checks. “You’re here because you want to make your own difference,” LaPierre said. “Take your own stand. Plant your feet firmly in the foundation of freedom. Don’t be swayed by the winds of political insanity.” LaPierre offered a complete pitch to CPAC goers, stressing the NRA’s dedication to safety, lampooning liberals for having bizarre ideas about self

Dr. Ben Carson to CPAC: Obama “Trying to Destroy the Country”

NEWS MAX 5 Hours Ago Dr. Ben Carson to CPAC: Obama "Trying to Destroy the Country" by  Sandy Fitzgerald Dr. Benjamin Carson, whose speech at the National Prayer Breakfast made headlines, said Saturday he is leaving medicine, and hinted at political aspirations that could even include the presidency. The neurosurgeon, speaking at the Conservative Political Conference in Oxon Hill, Maryland, said he plans to end his medical career while he's still at the top of his game, and said he plans further efforts toward his educational foundation, Carson's Scholars, reports CNN. And during his speech as CPAC, Carson further fueled talk of politics when he asked the audience , hypothetically, "What if you magically put me in the White House?" Carson's words at the National Prayer Breakfast were cheered when he criticized the Obama administration's tax policies and Obamacare while the president sat near him. And during his speech at CPAC Saturday, Carson said pe

Obama’s Advisors: Disarm America Through Taxation

FREEDOMOUTPOST.COM 4 Hours Ago Obama's Advisors: Disarm America Through Taxation by  William Lafferty Here's what Obama's advisors are telling him about the way to confiscate guns:  Tax them. They are advising him to tax guns, ammunition, magazines, and licenses and then attach draconian remedies for failure to register and pay the taxes.  Set the taxes low the first year, then increase them gradually to the point where a person owning an AR 15, three magazines and a box of ammo would owe $5,000 a year in taxes.  If a gun owner doesn't pay, the small print at the end of the tax law would subject him to jail and confiscation of everything he owns. Why use this approach?  Because people ignore gradual change and taxes can be imposed as a gradual change.   It's only when two things happen simultaneously that revolution occurs.  First, the ideals underlying the society must be undermined.  That has already happened.  And second, there must be a spark that ignites revol

R.I.'s gun-control laws rated 8th most stringent in nation

NEWS.PROVIDENCEJOURNAL.COM 3 Hours Ago R.I.'s gun-control laws rated 8th most stringent in nation PROVIDENCE --The strangest bedfellows agree: Rhode Island has more expansive gun laws than most other states in the nation. The Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence rates Rhode Island as eighth out of all 50 states for the strength of its gun laws. A study published recently in the Journal of the American Medical Association finds Rhode Island and other states with a breadth of gun laws also have lower rates of deaths from guns. And then there's the National Rifle Association. At a recent briefing at the State House, lobbyist Darin Goens held up the chart by the Brady Campaign that showed Rhode Island's ranking among other states. Among New England states, only Massachusetts and Connecticut ranked higher on gun-control laws. "Rhode Island already has some of the toughest gun laws in the country," Goens said to a cluster of state legislators, as he urged t

Kansas House approves 3 gun rights measures

SFGATE.COM 2 Hours Ago Kansas House approves 3 gun rights measures by John Milburn TOPEKA, Kan. (AP) — A proposal to let school districts and state colleges designate employees who can carry concealed weapons, and another to expand the number of public buildings where concealed weapons are permitted, passed the Kansas House with broad support Thursday. Another measure declaring that the federal government cannot regulate firearms manufactured, sold and kept in Kansas also was approved, though lawmakers readily acknowledged such a law would be challenged as an unconstitutional challenge to the supremacy of federal law. All three measures now head to the Senate, though a top leader there said it was unclear how quickly the bills would be debated. The schools districts and state colleges proposal would allow the institutions to choose employees who could carry concealed firearms inside their buildings, even if such weapons were banned for others. The bill was approved 84-35.

Ben Carson: Say You Magically Put me in the White House

THEBLAZE.COM 2 Hours Ago 2016 Hint? Ben Carson: ‘Say You Magically Put Me Into the White House…’ by  Madeleine Morgenstern Getty Images Will he? Dr. Ben Carson seemed to drop several major hints about his political future in a speech to conservative activists Saturday morning, including with a hypothetical, “say you magically put me into the White House.” The remark brought cheering audience members at the Conservative Political Action Conference to their feet and prompted a laughing Carson to put up his hands and say, “I take it back.” The neurosurgeon, who shot to political fame after his  headline-grabbing speech  at the National Prayer Breakfast last month, had been talking about what he would do if he were trying to destroy the country: create division among citizens, create a culture of ridiculing morality and undermine the nation’s financial stability. “It appears coincidentally that those are the things that are happening right now, and the question is how do we stop it?” Car

NRA's Wayne LaPierre Slams Liberal Media, Mocks Biden's Shotgun Advice

NEWS BUSTERS 53 Minutes Ago NRA's Wayne LaPierre Slams Liberal Media, Mocks Biden's Shotgun Advice by Randy Hall During a rousing speech that led to six standing ovations, Wayne LaPierre -- chief executive officer of the National Rifle Association -- told the Conservative Political Action Conference in National Harbor, Md., on Friday that the “liberal media can keep on hating me, but I'm still standing.” The speaker then turned his attention to a remark made on March 1 by Vice President Joe Biden that if anyone is in danger, he or she should take “that double barreled shotgun and fire two blasts outside the house.” LaPierre told the Democratic official: “You keep your advice, we'll keep or guns.” “As you can imagine, I don’t get invited to many parties in this town,” LaPierre began. “But that’s OK. I didn’t come here to be popular, I came here to stand for what I believe is true.” “The political elites, they may not like it. The liberal media can keep hating o

(CBSNewYork/AP) — Tough new gun control measures kick in Saturday throughout New York State. The measures are part of a package of regulations signed into law by Gov. Andrew Cuomo back in January. The law immediately banned in-state sales of guns classified as assault weapons. And as of Saturday, the law also requires federal background checks for private firearms sales performed by licensed gun dealers. Also effective Saturday, mental health professionals are required to report patients they may feel likely to hurt themselves or others seriously. The New York State legislature quickly passed the gun control measure in the wake of the Newtown, Conn. school massacre. Gunman Adam Lanza used a Bushmaster .223 semiautomatic in his rampage that left 20 first graders and six educators dead

Colorado lawmakers approve universal gun purchase background checks

YAHOO! NEWS 13 Hours Ago Colorado lawmakers approve universal gun purchase background checks by Keith Coffman By Keith Coffman DENVER (Reuters) - Colorado lawmakers voted on Friday to mandate universal background checks for all gun buyers in a state that has experienced two of the deadliest mass shootings in U.S. history. The measure passed without a single Republican vote. The vote followed months of debate on gun control in Colorado, and came after legislators approved four other gun control measures on Wednesday. The legislation now awaits the signature of Governor John Hickenlooper for final approval. Hickenlooper, a Democrat, has indicated he supports universal background checks for gun buyers but has not said if he would sign the bill. It was approved by both chambers of the Democratic-controlled Colorado legislature after last-minute amendments were worked out in a conference committee. Two Democrats voted against the bill, one in the state senate and one in the hou
