Chuck Schumer: NRA members have 'dumb' idea about the Second Amendment

WASHINGTON EXAMINER 1 Hour Ago Chuck Schumer: NRA members have 'dumb' idea about the Second Amendment by William Kristol Sen. Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., suggested that may members of the National Rifle Association reject his gun control proposals because they have “dumb” ideas about the meaning of the Second Amendment. “There are reasonable limitations,” Schumer said yesterday on Meet the Press. “And some in the pro gun movement and the NRA in many instances doesn’t believe in any limitation at all. That is not unconstitutional. That just is dumb.” It doesn’t take a constitutional scholar to see that, at a minimum, Schumer failed to take former President Bill Clinton’s recent advice about how to win the gun control debate. “Do not patronize the passionate supporters of your opponents by looking down your nose at them,” Clinton said on Saturday.

Bulgarian Gun Control Laws Fail to Prevent Assassination Attempt

BREITBART.COM 7 Hours Ago Bulgarian Gun Control Laws Fail to Prevent Assassination Attempt by AWR Hawkins 21 Jan 2013, 7:57 AM PDT post a comment Fortunately, the gun misfired; reports also indicate that it may have been a gas pistol to begin with--if it had of fired, it would have shot a concussion blast in Dogan's direction instead of a bullet. After the gun failed to fire, Dogan hit the shooter's hand before he could attempt a second shot. Security personnel tackled the shooter as Dogan fled the stage. According to Radio Bulgaria, to own a gun in the country one must: 1. Pass safety training for gun use 2. Pass an exam 3. Consult a psychologist 4. Register the weapon These are the very kinds of gun control measures President Obama, Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-CA), and other Democrats have been pushing as a means of ending gun crime in America. I wonder what Mr. Dogan would say about the effectiveness of such measures?

Gallup: Obama Still Lacks Majority Support for More Gun Control

PJMEDIA.COM 7 Hours Ago Gallup: Obama Still Lacks Majority Support for More Gun Control by Bryan Preston More than a month after Barack H. Obama and the Democrats began to use the Newtown tragedy to push for more gun control laws, support for such laws has moved up sharply, but it’s still not a majority position. In fact, more Americans remain satisfied with current gun laws than want them tightened. PRINCETON, NJ — In the aftermath of the Newtown, Conn., school shootings, and as Vice President Joe Biden leads a federal task force that will recommend ways to curb gun violence in the U.S., 38% of Americans are dissatisfied with the nation’s gun laws and want them strengthened. This is up from 25% who held this set of views a year ago, and is the highest since 2001. Still, more Americans are either satisfied with current gun laws, 43%, or think they should be loosened, 5%. The nation’s demographic shift may spell the end of the Second Amendment in coming years. Gallup found that

Faria: Gun Control and the Hallmarks of Tyranny

GOPUSA 6 Hours Ago Faria: Gun Control and the Hallmarks of Tyranny by Miguel A. Faria Georg Hegel (1770-1831), the father of dialectical idealism, which Karl Marx transmogrified as Marxist dialectical materialism, lamented that what we do learn from history is that man does not learn its lessons! Despite what we have learned about the deleterious effects of draconian gun control, as always preceding tyranny and even mass killing of the people by their own government (democide) in the last bloody century, President Barack Obama and the usual suspects in the Democratic Party have resumed the beating of the drums calling for the resumption of authoritarian gun control measures. These freedom curtailing measures punish the vast majority of lawful gun owners in America because of the crimes and shooting rampages by a number of psychopaths, copycat killers, or mentally ill persons who fell through the cracks of the criminal justice or mental health systems, or who listened to the sirens

Shep Smith On Lukewarm Gun Control Support: ‘If We Stuck With The Polls, We’d Have Had Slavery A Lot Longer’

MEDIAITE 3 Hours Ago Shep Smith On Lukewarm Gun Control Support: ‘If We Stuck With The Polls, We’d Have Had Slavery A Lot Longer’ by Noah Rothman In a conversation with The Hill editor A.B. Stoddard, Fox News Channel anchor Shepard Smith expressed his frustration with the lack of demand among lawmakers in Washington for new gun control measures. Stoddard observed that there is no consensus in public opinion polling data on gun control, and even less consensus among lawmakers on what new measures to adopt. Smith countered by insisting that had America’s lawmakers relied on polling data alone, “we’d have had slavery a lot longer than we did.” RELATED: Fox’s Shep Smith: Republicans On ‘Wrong Side Of History’ On Gay Marriage Smith noted that President Barack Obama made some promises during the campaign which he must fulfill in his second term. He said that, although the election occurred prior to the Newtown massacre, doing something to curb gun violence was among those promises.

Massive Boycott and Civil Disobedience of New York’s New Gun Laws Planned

GUNSSAVELIVES.NET 6 Hours Ago Massive Boycott and Civil Disobedience of New York’s New Gun Laws Planned Last week, New York state passed the most restrictive gun laws in the country. Banning magazines that hold more than 7 rounds and requiring registration of all weapons that the new law defines as “assault weapons”. Now gun owners, gun store owners and shooting range owners are planning massive civil disobedience to the new laws. According to the NY Post leaders of some of the state’s 300 gun clubs, gun dealers and Second Amendment organizations are organizing the boycott — and the heaviest interest is in Suffolk County, the Capital District and the Buffalo region, sources said. The organizers point to a little-known guarantee of gun ownership contained in New York’s own “Civil Rights Law,” which was ratified the same year as the Constitution . The state statute says the right to keep and bear arms “cannot be infringed” — stronger than the Second Amendment, which says it “

McConnell Vows Opposition to Obama’s Gun Control Plan

NEWS MAX 2 Hours Ago McConnell Vows Opposition to Obama’s Gun Control Plan by Dan Weil Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, who is up for re-election in 2014, has sent a telephone recording to gun owners in his state of Kentucky, vowing to fight against President Barack Obama’s gun control proposals. Those include a ban on the sale of assault-style rifles and gun magazines with more than 10 rounds, and a requirement that every gun buyer pass a background check. "President Obama and his team are doing everything in their power to restrict your Constitutional right to keep and bear arms," McConnell said in the recording, USA Today reports. "Their efforts to restrict your rights, invading your personal privacy and overstepping their bounds with executive orders, is just plain wrong." The call was directed to several hundred-thousand gun owners and hunters across the state, said Jesse Benton, McConnell's campaign manager. "Know that I will be doin

How Gunmaker Smith & Wesson Almost Went Out Of Business When It Accepted Gun Control

BUSINESSINSIDER.COM 10 Hours Ago How Gunmaker Smith & Wesson Almost Went Out Of Business When It Accepted Gun Control by Christina Austin In the wake of the Newtown, Conn., shooting, gun control has been thrust into the spotlight once again. The gun industry — and its lobby group, the NRA — stands firmly against gun control of any kind. But most people forget that 13 years ago Smith & Wesson tried to do something that, in hindsight, seems radical: reach a compromise with the federal government by accepting some sort of gun control, in return for permission to stay in business, albeit with more strict regulation. It's also important to note this this was the first-ever compromise in which a major gun manufacturer committed to fundamentally changing the way guns are made, distributed and sold. The company also believed the move had PR value: It hoped to burnish its brand by becoming the foremost firearms company that cared about safety. The attempt nearly killed the
