Rokita Leads House Letter to President: New Gun Control Measures are a ‘Constitutional Non-Starter’

ROKITA.HOUSE.GOV 2 Hours Ago Rokita Leads House Letter to President: New Gun Control Measures are a ‘Constitutional Non-Starter’ by Todd Rokita January 24, 2013 Contact: Josh Britton Phone: (202) 225-5037 E-mail: Josh.Britton@mail.house.gov (Washington, D.C.) – U.S. Rep. Todd Rokita today led 42 House colleagues in sending a letter to President Obama vowing to protect Second Amendment rights from federal overreach, and expressing concern that new gun control measures will not prevent future tragedies similar to last month’s school shootings in Newtown, Connecticut. A copy of the letter is below. “My colleagues and I are passionately opposed to any measure that would curb our Second Amendment rights. The gun control proposals the president offered last week are a constitutional non-starter, and in fact, would have had zero impact in preventing the tragedy in Newtown. “The

Stephen King: ‘How many have to die before we will give up these dangerous toys?’

RAW STORY 35 Minutes Ago Stephen King: ‘How many have to die before we will give up these dangerous toys?’ by Samantha Kimmey By Samantha KimmeyFriday, January 25, 2013 22:08 EST An essay written by Stephen King and available by Kindle download discusses gun violence in America, in response to the most recent mass murders and the current debate on gun control — which some are unsure will lead to a renewed assault weapons ban. In the essay, King claims he does not believe in a “culture of violence” in America. He also believes that gun control will not solve American’s problems but that it can save thousands of lives. The essay begins by detailing King’s view on how mass shootings narratives are all essentially the same and that they always end with a failure to enact any change, as “any bills to change existing gun laws, including those that make it possible for almost anyone in America to purchase a high-capacity assault weapon, quietly disappear into the legislative swamp,”

The Resistance Begins: New York Gun Owners Refuse to Register; “Largest Act of Civil Disobedience in State History”

SHTFPLAN.COM 3 Hours Ago The Resistance Begins: New York Gun Owners Refuse to Register; “Largest Act of Civil Disobedience in State History” With emotions running high in the aftermath of the Newtown Sandy Hook shooting, politicians on the State and Federal level have begun introducing legislative actions to curtail access to firearms protected by the Second Amendment. In Missouri, parents may soon be forced to register firearms with their child’s school under threat of criminal penalties. In Massachusetts, another proposal would require storage of semi-automatic rifles at government approved storage depots. And, in the State of New York, congressional representatives have already passed legislation that requires registration of every semi-automatic rifle and reduces maximum magazine capacity to 7 rounds of ammunition, and Governor Cuomo has floated the idea of gun confiscation. Now, in what is sure to be a growing trend across the entire country, New York gun owners are organiz

Mamet on Gun Control: 'The Left Loves a Phantom Statistic

BREITBART.COM 3 Hours Ago Mamet on Gun Control: 'The Left Loves a Phantom Statistic' The Left loves a phantom statistic that a firearm in the hands of a citizen is X times more likely to cause accidental damage than to be used in the prevention of crime, but what is there about criminals that ensures that their gun use is accident-free? If, indeed, a firearm were more dangerous to its possessors than to potential aggressors, would it not make sense for the government to arm all criminals, and let them accidentally shoot themselves? Is this absurd? Yes, and yet the government, of course, is arming criminals.Violence by firearms is most prevalent in big cities with the strictest gun laws. In Chicago and Washington, D.C., for example, it is only the criminals who have guns, the law-abiding populace having been disarmed, and so crime runs riot. Cities of similar size in Texas, Florida, Arizona, and elsewhere, which leave the citizen the right to keep and bear arms, guaranteed

Washington State prepares gun control nullification bill

EXAMINER.COM 1 Hour Ago Washington State prepares gun control nullification bill by Mikael Thalen As the call for more gun control continues, governors, lawmakers, sheriffs, and citizens across the country are taking a stand. After the tragic Sandy Hook shooting, gun control advocates immediately jumped on the opportunity to dust off old gun control legislation, specifically advocating for a ban on "assault weapons," despite the fact that the media now is having to admit no rifle was used in the shooting. Even though the FBI's own crime statistics show that more people are killed by blunt objects like hammers, than so called "assault rifles," the call to ban rifles from 99.9% of law abiding responsible gun owners, due to the action of a few, still remains. Attorney General Eric Holder, most famous for shipping guns to drug cartels to undermine the second amendment as admitted by documents leaked to CBS News, is now pushing gun control proposals in the

Holder begins gun-control push

THEHILL.COM 7 Hours Ago Holder begins gun-control push by Dustin Weaver By Megan R. Wilson - 01/25/13 12:40 PM ET Tweet The Justice Department is taking the first steps toward carrying out President Obama’s executive actions on gun control. Attorney General Eric Holder on Friday released three proposals to strengthen the National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS), which was one of the 23 actions ordered by Obama last week to tackle gun violence. The proposed regulations would give local law-enforcement agencies access to the gun-sale database that is maintained by the FBI. The rules would also preserve records of denied weapons sales indefinitely. The Brady Handgun Violence Prevention Act already requires federal background checks for gun purchases, but not every firearm sale is covered under the law. Currently, law enforcement agencies cannot perform a NICS check when transferring, returning or selling weapons that have been confiscated, seized or recovered

Dem: ‘I’m not interested in giving up my firearms’

WND.COM 9 Hours Ago Dem: ‘I’m not interested in giving up my firearms’ by DJ Dolce (CNS News) The chairman of the House Gun Violence Prevention Task Force – a group of Democrats who support President Barak Obama’s sweeping gun control plan – began a meeting on Wednesday by saying he wants to keep his guns and wants other “law-abiding Americans’ to do the same. “I just want to let everyone know from the beginning, I’m a hunter, I’m a gun owner and I believe that law-abiding citizens have a Second Amendment right to own firearms,” Rep. Mike Thompson (D-Calif.) said in his opening remarks. “I’m not interested in giving up my firearms, my guns, and I’m not going to ask other law abiding Americans to give up theirs,” Thompson said.
