Gun Laws, Personal Defense and the Oscar Pistorius Shooting

Gun Laws, Personal Defense and the Oscar Pistorius Shooting Oscar Pistorius stands in the dock during his bail hearing at the magistrates court in Pretoria, South Africa. (AP photo) Double-amputee sprinter and former Paralympic champion Oscar Pistorius claims he "felt a sense of terror" the night of Feb. 14. Believing someone had broken into his gated home in Pretoria, South Africa, Pistorius strapped on his prosthetic legs, walked from the bedroom to the bathroom, and fired four shots through the door - hitting his girlfriend, South African model Reeva Steenkamp, three times. It was a case of mistaken identity, according to Pistorius, who alleged Steenkamp had gotten up to use the bathroom, and he didn't notice she wasn't in bed while stricken with fear. After trying to resuscitate her, Steenkamp died in Pistorius' arms before the paramedics arrived. The prosecution, however, tells a different story, one of premeditated murder possibly spurred by a text m

9mm Ammo Shortage: Part Of Backdoor Gun Control

BREITBART.COM 16 Hours Ago 9mm Ammo Shortage: Part Of Backdoor Gun Control? by AWR Hawkins6 Mar 2013, 2:51 AM PDTpost a comment Why the 9mm ammo shortage? The quick answer is that demand is so high, but the thorough answer is that a large portion of the Department of Homeland Security's 1.6 billion roundstockpile is 9mm--as are many of the 20 million additional rounds DHS has ordered. And when you take these millions upon millions of rounds of ammo out of the market at a time when private demand is high, you get the dearth we are now experiencing. As I wrote on Feb. 10, gun owners are up against a perfect storm. Private gun owners are buying up every box of 9mm they can find while some of the most popular ammo brands--like Federal Ammunition--are stretched to the limit because they are not only trying to fill Wal-Mart shelves, but also produce the millions upon millions of rounds DHS is ordering. The difference between now and Feb. 10 is that I was buying 9mm online for

MENREC.COM 1 Day Ago List of Sheriffs and Police Chiefs Opposing Obama's Gun Control Plan Continues to Grow The number of sheriffs associations, and police chiefs nationwide who oppose the President’s attempts at gun control continues to grow. Currently, about 1 in 3 state sheriffs now oppose the attack on a law-abiding citizen’s Second Amendment rights. Via Washington Secrets: Three more state-wide sheriff associations have joined those opposed to President Obama’s kitchen sink approach to gun control, raising the number to 14, or nearly one-third of the nation’s statewide police organizations. Sheriff associations in South Carolina, California and most recently Nevada joined the other states in demanding Obama to stop his gun grab and instead focus on expanding the national background check system to include far more information on the mental health status of gun buyers than it does now. Nevada joined the growing group opposed to gun control just Monday. In their let

Pro-Self Defense Sheriff Apologizes for "Embarrassing" Police Chief Testimony

Tweet Sign-Up Ever wonder why police chiefs from big, crime ridden cities are always chosen to testify before the Senate about gun control while sheriffs are often ignored? Police chiefs are appointed. They simply serve as politicians and mouth pieces for their city councils and liberal mayors. This is the case in anti-self defense Philadelphia, Chicago, Washington D.C. Milwaukee etc. Sheriffs on the other hand are elected and represent the voices of the people they serve. On Monday Milwaukee County Sheriff David Clarke, the sheriff who sent out a public service announcement encouraging residents to learn how to use a firearm in order to protect themselves, sent a letter to Senator Lindsey Graham apologizing on behalf of his constituents for the "embarrassing" behavior of Milwaukee Police Chief Edward Flynn a

SCIENCEDAILY.COM 6 Hours Ago Texans not eager to change gun laws Mar. 6, 2013 — Although a large majority of Texans support background checks for all gun purchases, they are not eager to change existing gun laws in Texas, according to a University of Texas at Austin/Texas Tribune poll. Seventy-eight percent of Texans support requiring criminal and mental health background checks on all gun purchases in the United States, including at gun shows and for private sales. The statewide poll, conducted Feb. 15-24, surveyed 1,200 registered Texas voters and had a margin of error of 2.83 percentage points. THEBLAZE.COM 5 Hours Ago Violent Armed Robber Shoots Would-Be ‘Victim’ During Hold Up by Jason Howerton shutterstock.com On Tuesday night, an armed would-be robber approached a Miami man outside his apartment building and demanded his belongings. Though it is not clear why, the robber then shot the victim in the hand. He didn’t know it at the time, but it would turn out to be a senseless violent act that cost him his life. The victim, whose injury was said to be non-life threatening, then pulled out his own handgun in self-defense and shot his attacker several times. The violent robber later died at Miami’s Jackson Memorial Hospital due to his injuries. The shooting happened around 7:30 p.m. Tuesday. When police arrived, they found two men had been wounded, one critically. Police are investigating the initial shooting by the would-be robber. No charges have been filed against the victim. Democrat Bill Requires Anger Management Course For Bullet Buyers

Critics of Gibson say she is the “latest example of local lawmakers reaching for constitutionally-dubious solutions to the problem of gun violence.” I say she is violating her oath of office and is committing treason by such actions. “This is not about guns,” Gibson said. “This is about ammunition and not only for the safety of the general community, but also for the safety of law enforcement.” She claims to be concerned about citizens stockpiling ammunition, which she considers to be potentially dangerous should they come in contact with law enforcement agencies or criminals. To that I say, yes it would be dangerou

The article is based on a study published in the medical journal JAMA Internal Medicine. The study utilizes information from the Brady Center to Prevent Gun Violence, an outspoken anti-gun group. – CHICAGO (AP) — States with the most gun control laws have the fewest gun-related deaths, according to a study that suggests sheer quantity of measures might make a difference. But the research leaves many questions unanswered and won’t settle the debate over how policymakers should respond to recent high-profile acts of gun violence. In the dozen or so states with the most gun control-related laws, far fewer people were shot to death or killed themselves with guns than in the states with the fewest laws, the study found. Overall, states with the most laws had a 42 percent lower gun death rate than states wit
