Alabama Governor Signs Law Expanding Second Amendment Rights

SHOOTINGILLUSTRATED.COM 9 Hours Ago Alabama Governor Signs Law Expanding Second Amendment Rights by  J.R. Absher Despite the blitz against the Second Amendment rights of law abiding citizens launched by governors and state legislators in New York, Colorado, Connecticut, California and elsewhere this year, lawmakers in other states have passed responsible measures to protect and further the rights of responsible gun owners. Alabama was one such state where firearm owners and sportsmen earned a substantial victory with the passage of an omnibus firearms bill, Senate Bill 286. With the adjournment  sine die  of the state legislature days earlier, Governor Robert Bentley on May 20 signed SB 286 into law. It becomes effective on Aug. 1. In a statement following the measure's signing, Gov. Bentley called the 2013 Alabama legislative session "the best…I believe the state as ever had." SB 286 protects the rights of responsible gun owners and sportsmen in Alabama by reforming the

Democrat target of gun control recall threatens to make petition names public

GOPUSA 8 Hours Ago Democrat target of gun control recall threatens to make petition names public If she has to fight for her state Senate seat this summer, Pueblo lawmaker Angela Giron's first line of defense will be to scrutinize the recall petitions against her, hoping to invalidate enough voter signatures to block a special election. "Those petitions will be public and we'll go through all the names," Giron assured her supporters at a monthly constituent meeting Wednesday. Her critics -- local Republicans and gunrights supporters -- need the signatures of 11,200 registered voters from Senate District 3 to force a special election. Their deadline to turn in that number to the Colorado Secretary of State is Monday. That office then has 15 days to validate those signatures. Giron, a first-term Democrat, is being targeted for supporting new limits on gun magazines (no more than 15 rounds), requiring background checks in most private gun sales and requiring gun buyers

Florida Sheriff Arrested On Governor’s Orders For Defending Second Amendment

CSPOA.ORG 6 Hours Ago Florida Sheriff Arrested On Governor's Orders For Defending Second Amendment The CSPOA is investigating the issue further, but it seems at this time that a great injustice has been done. Sheriff Nick Finch in Florida has been arrested and suspended for refusing to enforce unconstitutional gun control laws in his county. We first became aware of this through emails from CSPOA site visitors; thank you for reporting it. We are in the process of finding out more information and making sure we know the whole story, but rest assured that if the story really is the way we understand it to be right now, we will fully support this sheriff and encourage other similar organizations to do the same. Watch our site or join our mailing list for further updates on this issue. Here are a couple of articles on other sites relating to it: http://www.tallahassee.com/article/20130604/NEWS/130604018/1001/RSS http://www.wctv.tv/home/headlines/Liberty-County-Sheriffs-Office–21015216

Massachusetts Police Carve-Out on Gun Control

THETRUTHABOUTGUNS.COM 3 Hours Ago Massachusetts Police Carve-Out on Gun Control by  Robert Farago Massachusetts' post-Newtown gun control legislation— An Act To Strengthen and Enhance Firearms Laws in the Commonwealth —is old news. Governor Duvall Patrick filed the legislation back in January. Think of it as political cover. But don't get to thinking that Bay State pols' anti-gun  jihad  has lost momentum. "Massachusetts lawmakers are planning a series of public hearings across the state on proposed changes to the state's gun laws,"  boston.com  reports. "The first hearing by the Public Safety Committee is scheduled for June 19 at Cape Cod Community College. The committee is looking at more than 60 gun bills that touch on everything from mental health and school safety to background checks and hunting issues." Whatever the Committee ultimately recommends you can be sure that . . . A) It will have nothing to do with the opinions of highly vocal gun r

Kansas Gov. Sam Brownback signs Law prohibiting Government lobbying on gun control

GUNS.COM 3 Hours Ago Kansas Gov. Sam Brownback signs Law prohibiting Government lobbying on gun control by  S.H. Blannelberry Last Friday, Kansas Gov. Sam Brownback signed a bill into law that prohibits any state employee, municipality or school district from using taxpayer dollars to lobby in support of or against gun control. House Bill 2162,  known colloquially in the state Legislature as the 'NRA bill' because of the  gun lobby's backing of the legislation , will take effect on July 1, 2013, and is seen by gun rights advocates as a way to further secure the Second Amendment rights of responsible gun owners in the Sunflower State. Gov. Sam Brownback Upon signing the bill, the governor's spokeswoman, Sherriene Jones-Sontag, released this statement, "Governor Brownback signed the bill because Kansans do not support spending taxpayer dollars on legislation limiting gun rights; Kansas is a strong pro-Second Amendment state." In addition to banning the use of t

Kirk Douglas on Gun Control: 'America's Cowboy Days are Over'

YAHOO! NEWS 2 Hours Ago Kirk Douglas on Gun Control: 'America's Cowboy Days are Over' by  Brent Lang By Brent Lang LOS ANGELES ( TheWrap.com ) - Kirk Douglas may have brandished a six shooter in films like "Gunfight at the O.K. Corral" and "Man Without a Star," but he wishes America wouldn't follow his big-screen example. "I often played the good cowboy on screen, riding in to save the day," the 96-year old Douglas writes in a Huffington Post opinion piece. "Now, everybody thinks he is a cowboy too. That frightens me. We have become a cowboy country with too many guns." Douglas acknowledges that he has guns in his own homes - souvenirs from his days as a cowboy hero - but writes that he always made sure to keep them locked up in a safe so his children, and later his grandchildren, could not access them. Stricter guns laws must be enacted, Douglas writes, because it is easy to buy or find weapons. The action hero from Hollywood

Gov. Quinn: Sign the gun bill

CHICAGO TRIBUNE 18 Minutes Ago Gov. Quinn: Sign the gun bill The Illinois General Assembly sent Gov. Pat Quinn a concealed carry of firearms bill that embodies the art of compromise. In other words, nobody likes it. Pro-gun groups say the bill is too restrictive. They say it carves out so many places you can't carry a concealed weapon that it neuters the ability of law-abiding citizens to adequately protect themselves. Gun control advocates say the bill is too loose. They say it doesn't give law enforcement enough discretion to deny concealed carry permits. We're not crazy about the bill, either. We would have preferred a law modeled after New York's, which empowers local law enforcement to approve concealed carry permits only when applicants show they have a need for extra protection. That concept didn't get much traction in the Illinois General Assembly. Lawmakers sent Quinn a bill that incorporates the wish lists of pro-gun groups and gun control advocates, incl

Google’s Eric Schmidt Blasts ‘Liars’ Who Refuse to Believe Man-made Global Warming

NEWS BUSTERS 4 Hours Ago Google's Eric Schmidt Blasts 'Liars' Who Refuse to Believe Man-made Global Warming by  Matthew Sheffield In a bizarre speech, Google executive chairman Eric Schmidt blasted the news media, saying reporters "don't believe in facts" when it comes to their coverage of the discussion over whether or not humans are increasing the Earth's temperature. But Schmidt was not talking about the fact that the Earth's median temperature has not increased in over 10 years or that the Earth has experienced ice ages when the atmospheric CO2 content was 5 times its current amount. Instead, the top Obama adviser and big-time donor was ranting against "liars" who do not believe in anthropogenic global warming. Because a sufficient number of people do not buy into the climate hype, this creates inaction on the part of government since, Schmidt alleged,  according to a report  in the technology blog The Verge. "The media gets confuse
