Day 7 And No Deal

Monday, October 7th  Government Shutdown: Day 7 It’s been a week since lawmakers in Washington failed to come to an agreement on funding our government, and therefore we remain in a partial government shutdown. I wish I could tell you there’s been movement in negotiations, but that doesn’t seem to be the case thanks to the Democrats. While politicians in Washington continue to sling arrows at one another, not much has been done in the way of work by Democrats. House Republicans have continued to pass a series of bills to fund various parts of the government such as furloughed federal workers, FEMA and WIC, but D

Online ads are the latest way gun buyers can avoid background checks

SALON.COM 8 Hours Ago Online ads are the latest way gun buyers can avoid background checks by  Denise Spellberg They were people who  wanted  a gun to fix their problems. They were known to police for assaulting lovers and spouses, using guns in violent crimes and being addicts. They knew that they would fail the FBI's background checks, so they went online and found private gun sellers who took their cash and asked few questions. Wisconson's Radcliffe Haughton was under court order to stay away from his wife Zina Daniel. But he went to  Armslist.com in October 2012 and bought a Glock handgun that he used the next day to kill her and two co-workers before commiting suicide. In Illinois the previous April, Dmitry Smirnov also bought a gun on Armslist that he used to kill Jitka Vesel, after stalking her to her job and shooting her 11 times in the parking lot. Armslist.com is like a Craigslist for firearms.  Created  by "gun owning and gun loving Americans" in 2009, it

New Recall Effort in Colorado Targets Another Anti-Gun Lawmaker

TOWNHALL.COM 1 Hour Ago New Recall Effort in Colorado Targets Another Anti-Gun Lawmaker by  Leah Barkoukis With  two victories  now under their belt, gun rights activists in Colorado are  refocusing their efforts  to recall state Sen. Evie Hudak—despite a failed attempt less than six months ago. "She has infringed upon our constitutional right to keep and bear arms. She has voted to make all citizens less safe and to drive hundreds of jobs from Colorado," reads an excerpt of the petition emailed by Mike McAlpine, a spokesman for  Recall Hudak, too . The anti-gun senator also drew the ire of Second Amendment advocates after she lectured rape survivor Amanda Collins during a hearing on gun control in March. Collins had a concealed weapons permit but was not carrying due to her college's gun-free zone policy. Katie reported  on the exchange at the time: After her testimony, Collins was met with a factually deficient lecture from Democratic State Senator Evi Hudak, who told

SAF sues Gov. Cuomo over New York SAFE Act magazine limit (VIDEO)

GUNS.COM 2 Hours Ago SAF sues Gov. Cuomo over New York SAFE Act magazine limit (VIDEO) by  S.H. Blannelberry New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo in a power-red tie. The Second Amendment Foundation filed a lawsuit last week in federal court challenging a portion of the  New York SAFE Act  that limits one to loading no more than seven rounds in a 10-round magazine. The lawsuit claims that the seven-round limit violates one's right to keep and bear arms because it "substantially interferes with the right of law abiding citizens to defend themselves and is not sufficiently related to any compelling or otherwise adequate government interest." Joining the SAF as plaintiffs in the case are Shooters Committee for Political Education (SCOPE) and Long Island Firearms LLC. Defendants include New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo and Joseph D'Amico, superintendent of the Division of State Police. In a  press release , SAF Executive Vice President Alan Gottlieb discussed the problems that the law cr

Blog: ObamaCare: 'I was Laughing at Boehner, Until the Mail Came Today'

AMERICANTHINKER.COM 3 Hours Ago Blog: ObamaCare: 'I was Laughing at Boehner, Until the Mail Came Today' by  Chris Banescu It's finally dawning on liberals, leftists, and progressives that conservatives were telling the truth when they warned about the fundamental problems and dangers of The 'Affordable' Care Act (ObamaCare). As reported in the San Jose Mercury News, reality came knocking for Obama voters and ObamaCare supporters last week. And many of them wish they had not answered the door. Big believers in ObamaCare are experiencing sticker shock. These folks voted not once, but twice for President Obama. They believed the propaganda that ObamaCare will lower prices and the people will keep their existing plans. They're now seeing that Obama lied. Cindy Vinson and Tom Waschura are big believers in the Affordable Care Act. They vote independent and are proud to say they helped elect and re-elect President Barack Obama. Yet, like many other Bay Area residents

Harry Reid Blames Right Wing Media Bias

PJMEDIA.COM 3 Hours Ago Harry Reid Blames Right Wing Media Bias by  Ed Driscoll The Senator Majority Leader, gaffe machine and human canker sore "Claims Media Is Unfair to Democrats,"  Alec Torres writes at the NRO Corner: In an  interview with Politico , Senator Harry Reid argued that the media is being unfair to Democrats in its coverage of the shutdown. Reid said he believes that there is no way someone viewing the situation objectively could conclude that Democrats are at fault for the shutdown. "You and other journalists have a real shortcoming in that you are trying so hard to be fair that you are unfair," Reid said. "Democrats have had almost nothing to do with the problems here. It's all Republicans." As Torres goes on to note, "Media Research Center, a conservative media-watchdog group, found that in 39 stories in the two weeks leading to the shutdown,  CBS, ABC, and NBC blamed Republicans 21 times  for failing to reach a budget agreemen

DOJ sends letter to Universities telling them to ignore SCOTUS ruling on using race in admissions...

THERIGHTSCOOP.COM 3 Hours Ago DOJ sends letter to Universities telling them to ignore SCOTUS ruling on using race in admissions... Posted by  The Right Scoop   on October 7th, 2013 in  Politics  |  9 Comments I was listening to Attorney Joe DiGenova this morning on WMAL and he pointed out how the DOJ had recently sent a letter to universities telling them they could ignore the June ruling by the Supreme Court on using race in admissions. The Supreme Court, in a nearly unanimous ruling, said that universities could use race in admissions but not as a dominant factor. But in this letter the DOJ is instructing universities to continue with the same racial preferences that the Supreme Court had just barred them from using: WSJ  – Obama Administration regulators have made a specialty of ignoring Congressional intent, and even black-letter law. Now they're showing the same disdain for the Supreme Court with advice to universities about interpreting racial preferences in the wake of June

Glenn: Obama’s treatment of the gov’t shutdown is the ‘sign of a dictator’

GLENN BECK CURRENT EVENTS 2 Hours Ago Glenn: Obama's treatment of the gov't shutdown is the 'sign of a dictator' Monday, Oct 7, 2013 at 12:22 PM EDT The media and the Democrats in Washington D.C. want you to believe the government shutdown is the result of the Republicans' unwillingness to compromise, but as Glenn proved on radio this morning, it is the President and his cronies who are intentionally inflicting pain on the American people. "Now they are coming out and saying [the President] will negotiate, but it's the Republicans [fault]. Let me just give you a list of what has happened, what they have closed down," Glenn said. "And this is what you need to tell your friends. This is what you need to Facebook. This is what you need to tweet: 15% of the government is shut down. What business is so lean that, if they shut down 15%, they go into massive chaos? Certainly not the government… So here's what's happened. And you tell me who'
