Pelosi Gets More Procedurally Sneaky With Gun Control Than Immigration Reform

PJMEDIA.COM 1 Day Ago Pelosi Gets More Procedurally Sneaky With Gun Control Than Immigration Reform by Stephen Kruiser Behind you. House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) on Tuesday endorsed different procedural tactics to advance two of President Barack Obama’s top legislative priorities. While she all but ruled out supporting anything short of a comprehensive approach to immigration reform, she opened the door to the possibility of lawmakers considering gun legislation in a piecemeal fashion. Stuck in the minority, Pelosi lacks control over what bills come to the House floor. But her imprint will be felt on both immigration and gun legislation, if only because they will almost certainly require Democratic votes for passage. In that light, her embrace of different procedural strategies is a significant predictor of what types of congressional showdowns lay ahead. Theory: as long as they’re nipping away at gun control legislation, they can keep saying that people who t

Left Freaks Out About Pro-Gun Democrat in IL Special Election

BREITBART.COM 1 Day Ago Left Freaks Out About Pro-Gun Democrat in IL Special Election by Mike Flynn by Mike Flynn13 Feb 2013, 7:38 PM PDTpost a comment The special election, whose primary is scheduled for February 26th, is the result of Jesse Jackson Jr.'s resignation from Congress in the face of criminal charges. Halvorson, who served one-term in Congress, is considered the frontrunner in the multi-candidate field to win the Democrat nomination. The district covers parts of the South Side of Chicago, just miles from Obama's home, into the inner Cook County suburbs. The attacks on Halvorson began in earnest when she came out in opposition to Obama's proposed assault weapons ban. An opponent of most gun control measures, she was endorsed by the NRA in 2010. Chicago currently has among the strictest gun control laws in the country, yet the city has been riddled with an epidemic of street crime. No current measures under consideration in Congress would be as strict as

Surge of sheriff groups opposed to Obama gun control rises to 11

WASHINGTON EXAMINER 3 Hours Ago Surge of sheriff groups opposed to Obama gun control rises to 11 by Stephen F. Hayes In less than four weeks since President Obama proposed sweeping new gun control laws and a ban on assault-style weapons, the backlash from law enforcement groups that strongly support the Second Amendment has surged and now there are 11 state sheriffs associations opposed to the president. The Illinois and Montana Sheriffs Associations became the last to join the growing crowd of police opposed to Obama, arguing this week that the president and state legislatures should instead be focused on mental health, not gun hardware. "Sheriffs from across the state of Illinois believe that it is their responsibility and duty to uphold the Constitution including the Second Amendment. Rational law abiding citizens are not the cause of random acts of horrific violence in our communities. The focus should be primarily on the lack of mental health services in our countr

NRA chief: Obama's 'charade' on guns was exposed in address

THEHILL.COM 4 Hours Ago NRA chief: Obama's 'charade' on guns was exposed in address - The Hill's Blog Briefing Room by Daniel Strauss Tweet President Obama’s gun-control push was revealed as a “charade” during Tuesday night’s State of the Union address, according to the leader of the National Rifle Association. NRA Chief Executive Wayne LaPierre said Obama’s speech exposed the “fraudulent intentions” behind his call for new restrictions on firearms and high-capacity magazines. “It was only a few weeks ago when they were marking their anti-gun agenda as a way of protecting school children from harm. That charade ended at the State of the Union, when the president exposed their fraudulent intentions. It's not about keeping kids safe at school. That wasn't even mentioned in the president's speech." Speaking at the National Wild Turkey Federation convention in Nashville, LaPierre said proponents of stricter gun laws are really just trying to take

Will We Have Hagel?

Thursday, February 14th Hagel Watch It looks like Chuck Hagel has 55 Democrat Senators supporting him and the battle is going on in Washington as I write this. This is going to be really interesting and Republicans need to take a stand here. I have outlined repeatedly that Chuck Hagel is not prepared to be the Secretary of State and, if Republicans hold the line, President Obama’s nomination will be in trouble. This is the man that couldn’t even answer whether the troop surge worked in Afghanistan or not. This is embarrassing. Hagel has been wrong on terrorism and he’s been wrong on jihad. Tennessee House advances "guns in parking lots" bill in short order

NASHVILLE Tennessee Tennessee Republican Representative Jeremy Faison of Cosby presents his bill to allow handgun carry permit holders to store loaded firearms in their vehicles no matter where they are parked to the House Civil Justice Subcommittee in Nashville Wednesday. A bill to allow concealed weapon carry permit holders to store their weapons in vehicles while parked at business or school property. Representative Faison argued that permit holders who undergo background checks and meet training requirements are “worthy of carrying ... and keeping a gun.” Democratic Representative Sherry Jones of Nashville was the lone member of the House to raise questions about the measure and to convey her opposition when the bill was advanced to the full House Civil Justice Committee on a voice vote . “So you could go to church, school, drive down to the guy’s house down the block? Any restaurant, any business anywhere?”  Faison noted that only areas governed by federal la
