Let's Get One Thing Straight ...

The Patriot Post

Some among us just don't get it.

Yesterday, The Patriot Post sent a request for support to underwrite the critical position that we man on the front lines in defense of Liberty. I received this email in response:

"Sounds to me like The Patriot Post needs to cut salaries and spending like the rest of us, and stop asking for support."

Notably, that complaint came from a subscriber who has never financially supported our mission and operations budget.

So, for the few Patriots we serve who harbor similar sentiments, let me make something clear. There are no big salaries and fringe benefits around here. Our mission and operations budget is lean and mean, and if not for all the volunteer editing and staffing support, our budget would be three times what it is today.

Now, my objection was not that this complainant has not supported us -- we are pleased to provide our services and resources regardless of support. In fact, we specifically ask that some of our Patriot ranks not support us, including those in the military, students and those on fixed income. Inevitably some of them do, and it is humbling to receive that support, especially when it comes with an apology that they could not do more.

The bottom line is, we are a mission-driven service organization, and our commitment has always been, and remains, to use every penny our Patriot Post supporters provide wisely. Our staff works long hours for modest compensation, our facilities are simple, and our fixed operating expenses are as tight as possible. Internet publishing is expensive: it requires sophisticated hardware, custom software, installations and offices. We also have substantial legal, accounting and insurance costs.

Our budget is a small fraction of the expenses of other influential conservative organizations, in part because our staff members are not deterred by modest wages, but motivated by the work that we do. (For more detailed information on our budget, please view our expense allocations here.)

There is one day left to raise the remaining $128,500 for our 2012 Independence Day Campaign. We are currently about 33 percent behind where we need to be to make budget.

Please support The Patriot Post today -- we are funded solely by Patriots like you. If you prefer to support us by mail, please send your check with our printable donor form to the address below.

As always, I thank you for the honor and privilege of serving you as editor and publisher of The Patriot Post. We are humbled to count you among our ranks.

Senators now have two days to read and digest it before a Wednesday vote. Sen.
