The following is an email I received last night from my good friend of 40 years, Jimmi Bonavita. It is THE most important message I've read all year. With his permission, I'm posting it for all to see:
We are in very serious danger of losing our 2nd Amendment rights very, very soon. Don't think so?
Senator Diane Feinstein (D-CA) is set to introduce her 'new and improved' "Assault Weapons Ban of 2013" to the U.S. Senate after the New Year recess. The Democrat majority in the Senate will pass it and send it to the House, and the President has already enthusiastically said he would sign it into law if it clears the House. Considering how wishy-washy the Republican-controlled House has been over the fiscal cliff issue, I'm not so sure they can be trusted to unite against it, especially in light of the emotional Newtown, CT school shooting still fresh in their minds. If you haven't already seen (and read) this bill, you are going to be shocked! Look it up on www.drudgereport.com or www.nraila.org and read the details, but suffice it to say, if passed, it would virtually end gun ownership in one generation.
Just SOME of the provisions are:
All semi-autos capable of firing more than 10-rounds (via detachable magazines, or even "blind" magazines!), including previously unlisted firearms like the lowly Ruger 10/22 .22 rifle, "Curios and Relics" like the M1 Carbine, and ALL SEMI-AUTO PISTOLS would have to be registered as NFA weapons (just like machine guns, sawed-off shotguns and destructive devices currently are), requiring duplicate registration cards, fingerprint cards, photographs, local Law Enforcement endorsement, a $200 REGISTRATION TAX (PER WEAPON), and... presumably a 9-10 month waiting period (as is the present case with NFA weapons), with ONE NOTABLE EXCEPTION; unlike current NFA weapons, which CAN be sold, transferred and/or bequeathed to heirs upon the owners' death, all current semi-autos would NO LONGER BE ALLOWED TO BE MANUFACTURED, SOLD, TRANSFERRED, and... they would have to be forfeited TO THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT FOR DESTRUCTION UPON THE DEATH OF THE OWNER!!!!! (Yes, that's right! CONFISCATION!)
As I said before; The NRA is our ONLY effective defense of this proposed legislation, and it is going to cost a lot of money to fight it!!!
What is it about so many gun owners who will pay $500, $1,000 or $1,500 to buy a single firearm, but won't spend a mere $25 a year to keep it?
If you are NOT an NRA member, you need to JOIN IMMEDIATELY! (The annual membership fee has just been reduced from $35 to $25, and this includes your choice of one of four monthly magazines and your choice of three quality gifts as part of your membership.) Just go to www.nrahq.org/membership to join online.
There are an estimated 80,000,000 gun owners in the U.S., but only 4,000,000 are NRA members. That means 4 million gun owners have been "carrying the water" for the remaining 76 million gun owners all these years! Fact: the NRA is now the ONLY effective thing standing between the government and the loss of your guns. Period.
Please forward this to anyone you know who owns a firearm (or who wants to) that will listen and take heed, OK???
