Obama Says He Wants Gun Control ‘Priority’ in 2013
The moment supporters of the Second Amendment have worried about may be here soon.
President Obama said Sunday that he will present a package of anti-gun legislation to Congress early in 2013, pledging to place his “full weight” behind the new restrictions.
As expected, Obama is taking advantage of the Newtown school massacre to persuade Congress and ignorant Americans that limiting legal access to guns would actually curb mass murders like those that took place in Connecticut on Dec. 14.
Obama said in an interview on NBC’s “Meet the Press,” “I’m going to be making an argument to the American people about why this is important and why we have to do everything we can to make sure that something like what happened at Sandy Hook Elementary does not happen again.”
Don’t count on anything in that package actually addressing what happened in Newtown. Obama has called on Congress to reinstate the federal “assault weapons” ban and a ban on “high-capacity” magazines.
That legislation has already been dropped in the hopper by Sen. Dianne Feinstein, who within days of the shootings produced a proposal that is a grab-bag of restrictions on not just so-called “assault weapons,” but a long list of ordinary handguns and gun accessories as well.
It’s a legislative package that clearly took more than a few days to put together, a fact that should raise eyebrows at the least but that is being ignored once again by the lapdog media.
“I’ve been very clear that an assault-rifle ban, banning these high capacity clips, background checks, that there are a set of issues that I have historically supported and will continue to support,” Obama said.
What’s also very clear is that the Man Who Would Be King has more on his mind than just a few simple tweaks. A task force led by Vice President Biden — no friend of the Constitution — is hard at work coming up with proposals to “stop gun violence” that will be presented in January.
According to a source familiar with the task force’s work, the proposals being considered may also address violent entertainment and speech that is deemed to incite violence.
You can guess whose speech they will be going after first.
At the risk of “inciting” anyone, this is looking more and more the time to keep your guns clean and loaded.
