Dramatic 911 call released in home intruder shooting
With a 911 operator on one phone and his wife on another, a Walton County father urged his wife to stay calm when an intruder broke into the family’s home.
“Just remember everything that I showed you, everything that I taught you, alright?” Donnie Herman says to his wife, heard in a 911 call obtained by The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
Seconds later, Herman’s calmness is replaced by the sound of gunshots.
“She’s shooting him! she’s shooting him!” Herman tells the operator.
“Shoot him again! Shoot him!” he tells his wife.
Melinda Herman shot the intruder, identified by police as Paul Slater, five times when he broke into the family’s home last Friday. Melinda Herman was home with the couple’s 9-year-old twins at the times.
Only Slater was injured.
