Piers Morgan schooled on need to have AR-15 by 22-year-old woman
by Joe Newby
Earlier this week, CNN's Piers Morgan got educated on the need to have an AR-15 for self defense from 22-year-old Celia Bigelow, the director of campus action for America Majority Action, Newsbusters reported Sunday.
"I want a gun that can hold a lot of ammo because if I'm faced with an intruder or multiple intruders that come into my home, I want to make sure I have enough ammo to get the job done, especially if they're armed," she told Morgan.
Since the Newtown shooting, Morgan has used his program to push an anti-gun agenda, often belittling those who support the right to keep and bear arms.
"One of my arguments against guns is you don't need assault weapons for self defense," he said before introducing Bigelow and Aubrey Blankenship, director of communications for the Blue Ridge Arsenal in Chantilly, Virginia.
But Bigelow rattled off three reasons the weapon is useful for home defense.
"One, they're lightweight. They're quite accurate. I can shoot them much more accurately than a handgun or a shotgun," she said when asked why she felt the need to own the rifle.
She then held up a 30-round magazine and told Morgan she wanted a gun "that can hold a lot of ammo" to ensure she had enough firepower to get the job done, especially if her adversary was armed.
Blankenship agreed, saying that young women "want the capacity to have more bullets than your average handgun would have."
Morgan responded by asking how many AR-15 owners have actually used the weapon for self defense.
Bigelow responded by recalling the 2010 incident in Houston where a 15-year-old defended himself and his sister from intruders using his father's AR-15.
Last Tuesday, two New York students scared armed intruders away with an empty AR-15 rifle.
As we reported Saturday, the Department of Homeland Security is seeking to purchase 7,000 rifles similar to the AR-15, calling them “personal defense weapons.”
According to the DHS, the weapons are “suitable for personal defense use in close quarters.” Unlike the civilian version, the weapons sought by the government will be capable of automatic fire.
