The Bible, a ten-hour miniseries starting Sunday on the History Channel

Is this the most impossibly good-looking cast of a Bible adaptation ever? New mini-series packed with beautiful actors in the greatest story ever told

It might not be the best adaptation of a Bible story ever filmed, but it could be the most attractive.
The Bible, a ten-hour miniseries starting Sunday on the History Channel, has high production values and an impossibly beautiful cast.
Even the actor who plays Jesus, Portuguese heart-throb Diogo Morado, has a background in modeling.

Looking good: Critics are noting that the new Bible miniseries has perhaps the best-looking Jesus ever cast

Epic: The sweeping ten-hour show will retell famous religious stories, all with beautiful actors

Skin-deep: While the show's cast may be stunning, the narrative itself has been derided as tedious and cheesy
Writing for the New York Post, reviewer Linda Stasi noted: 'Things really pick up when Jesus — played by Portuguese actor Diogo Morgado, who looks like a surfer dude, particularly in the shot-from-below, walk-on-water sequence — shows up. Morgado is very good in the part, although he sure doesn’t look the part.
'Most of the other roles are taken by Brits (who look nothing like their roles since they look nothing like Middle Easterners),' she added.

Model Christians: Several members of the cast have backgrounds in modeling

Too hot: Critics have mocked the show's attractive cast noting that few of the actors look as if they truly inhabit a B.C. world
Survivor
Original sin: The show is produced by the same people behind such non-religious hits as The Apprentice and Survivor
As for the storytelling, Stasi dismissed much of the show as 'tedious.'
Meanwhile, The New York Times called the show a 'rickety, often cheesy spectacle.'
Previous actors who played the role of Jesus, including Willem Dafoe and Max Von Sydow, were known less for their gym-sculpted physiques and more for their acting chops.

Not as hot: The Jesus-inspired comedy of Life of Brian featured far fewer six-pack abs
Dafoe
Acclaimed: Willem Dafoe's portrayal of the son of God drew rave reviews but few schoolgirl crushes
The series brings famous Bible stories to the small screen, starting with Adam and Eve in the garden the working all the way through Jesus Christ's crucifixion and resurrection.
The adaptation comes from Roma Downey and husband Mark Burnett, who's biggest hits have not been known for their religious bent.
Delilah
Ancient tales: The series will feature adaptations of all the well-known Bible stories, including Samson and Delilah

Gritty: The cast may be beautiful, but producers vow not to shy away from some of the good book's more violent scenes
Burnett is the producer behind hit reality shows Survivor and The Apprentice.
However Downey's Christian programming background is well established, having starred in the hit CBS series Touched by an Angel.

Besides producing the series, Downey also plays the role of Christ's mother, Mary.
