Pittsburgh paramedics to donate marathon pay to Boston victims

Pittsburgh paramedics plan to donate the money they earn while working at the Pittsburgh marathon on May 5 to a group helping victims of the Boston marathon bombings.

The money will go to The One Fund Boston Inc., which was created by Massachusetts Gov. Deval Patrick and Boston Mayor Thomas Menino in the aftermath of the April 15 attacks that left three people dead and more than 260 wounded.

"In the aftermath of the Boston Marathon tragedy on April 15, Pittsburgh EMS, as did everyone else, wanted to support and help those who had been affected by this senseless incident," Anthony Weinmann, president of the local chapter of the Fraternal Association of Professional Paramedics, said in a news release. "As health care advocates, it only seemed natural to help."

Additional medic units also will collect donations for The One Fund Boston on the day of the marathon.
