Delaware: State House to Vote on Anti-Gun Bill This Tuesday
Contact your state Representative TODAY in Opposition to Senate Bill 16
Your immediate action is needed to defeat anti-gun legislation! The Delaware House of Representatives is expected to vote on Senate Bill 16 on Tuesday, May 14. Sponsored by state Senator Margaret Rose Henry (D-2), SB 16 would require a gun owner to notify law enforcement if a firearm was stolen or lost within an arbitrary time period, and carries severe penalties and fines for violations. Contact your state Representative NOW and urge him or her to oppose and vote against Senate Bill 16.
Originally, SB 16 required the gun owner to report a lost or stolen firearm within 48 hours, but a Senate floor amendment that was adopted expands that time limit to seven days. This bill passed in the state Senate by a close11 to 10 votelast week. SB 16 does nothing to solve an existing crime problem but instead imposes policies to penalize victims of crime. Anyone who does not follow these arbitrary laws will be subjected to heavy fines or felony charges that would take away their right to possess a firearm legally. Such legislation that targets innocent citizens - who are in fact victims of crimes themselves – is irresponsible. Lawmakers and law enforcement should be spending their time and resources on solutions that would help catch and prosecute criminals, not creating new ways to penalize a victim.
Call your state Representative NOW and urge him or her to OPPOSE SB 16. Contact information for your state Representative can be foundhere. Since the state Senate has passed SB 16, the Delaware House is the last opportunity for this anti-gun legislation to be defeated.
