Firearms Murder Rate Statistics Higher In Gun Control States

Firearms murder rate statistics are higher in states with more Gun Control regulations.

As previously reported by The Inquisitr, the firearms murder rate statistics will probably receive the same reaction as the NRA Youth Day that happened over the weekend. Some in the media were horrified that kids as young as the Newtown victims were allowed to enjoy shooting a gun.

The firearms murder rate statistics are also joined by the news of the release of a 3-D printable handgun made of plastic. Politicians are already calling for bans even though the plastic guns are limited to one shot per non-reusable barrel.

The Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence named California as the state with the strongest gun control laws. Brady Campaign spokeswoman Amanda Wilcox explained how stringent the Gun Control laws are: "What is very unusual is that California also has a program by which we can remove guns, recover guns from people who have a gun and then subsequently become prohibited or dangerous."

Despite these strong gun control laws, the firearms murder rate statistics for 2011 show that California had the highest number of gun murders at 1,220, which comprises 68 percent of all murders in California that year and equates to 3.25 murder per 100,000 people. Still, even California pales in comparison to Washington D.C., which had a firearms murder rate of 12 gun murders per 100,000.

In comparison, Texas had half the number of murders and a firearms murder rate of 2.91 per 100,000. Utah, which has the least number of gun control laws, has a firearms murder rate of 0.97 per 100,000.

So it's perhaps with no surprise that advocates of gun ownership are giving out free shotguns in 15 cities. The idea is for citizens to be able to arm and protect themselves against criminals.

Having seen the firearms murder rate statistics, how do you feel about Gun Control laws?
