Fox 28: South Bend, Elkhart IN News, Weather, Sports
According to a northern Indiana sheriff, he won't enoforce any future laws that infringe on the public's right to bear arms.
Elkhart County Sheriff Bradley Rogers has pledged to oppose all future gun legislation imposed on the community he serves. Speaking at a weekend rally, Rogers comments drew loud applause from the crowd gathered outside South Bend's Morris Performing Art Center.
"I will not allow gun confiscation in my county and I will not enforce any additional anti-gun laws," said the sheriff. "A ban on magazines a ban on certain types weapons, it's a slippery slope."
According to Rogers, he "promised to uphold the United States Constitution and the Indiana Constitution." And he doesn't take his oaths lightly. He went to assert the Federal Government is not authorized to execute gun control measures.
But some community members are concerned, causing them to second guess law enforcement officials. Many believe Rogers has a responsibility to enforce Federal law despite his personal feelings on the situation.
