Did Hillary Clinton's Run for the Presidency End Monday Morning?

Team Clinton knew Hillary had taken what for others would have been a career-ending hit. In response, Clinton's debut on Twitter was rushed out within hours of the CBS story breaking. Clinton's Twitter bio was hastily rewritten after news of her impending Twitter debut was first leaked to select reporters.

The distraction worked for now. Reporters reacted like schoolgirls, gushing about Clinton's bio and hipster-wannabe photo on her Twitter homepage. Scores of articles were written about Clinton joining Twitter and what it meant for her plans, "TBD", for the 2016 presidential election. In contrast, only a handful of articles were written about the State Department scandal with none of them holding Clinton responsible—even the CBS News report cast Clinton as unaware that her own security detail was being investigated for procuring prostitutes on foreign trips.

Any other Secretary of State, at least any Republican one, would have been the subject of dozens of articles by now questioning her capability to be president after being exposed as at best totally out of touch and at worst deeply involved in covering up abominable criminal acts in her department.

The CBS News report, based on a memo by the State Department's Office of Inspector General, was buttressed by on-the-record whistleblower interviews.

CBS News' John Miller reports that according to an internal State Department Inspector General's memo, several recent investigations were influenced, manipulated, or simply called off. The memo obtained by CBS News cited eight specific examples. Among them: allegations that a State Department security official in Beirut "engaged in sexual assaults" on foreign nationals hired as embassy guards and the charge and that members of former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton's security detail "engaged prostitutes while on official trips in foreign countries" -- a problem the report says was "endemic."

The memo also reveals details about an "underground drug ring" was operating near the U.S. Embassy in Baghdad and supplied State Department security contractors with drugs.

This report, combined with her deadly failure leading up the Benghazi terror attack and cover-up afterward will end Hillary Clinton's presidential ambitions. Not today, not tomorrow and not for the true believers. You won't hear it from her courtiers in the press and the Twitterati, but like what happened on July 18, 1969 at Chappaquiddick doomed Ted Kennedy's dream of being president one day, so too will the report of June 10, 2013 doom Clinton's dream of being president.

Hillary Clinton's legacy as Secretary of State will be one of numbers and scandals, not accomplishments.

Curiously, the Inspector General's memo cited by CBS News is dated October 23, 2012--two weeks before President Barack Obama faced reelection. The release of that memo by a patriotic American back then might have also doomed Obama's dream of a second term.

Update: Tuesday morning the New York Post  poured gasoline on the fire engulfing Clinton's political career. The Post reports Clinton's State Department covered-up the child sex exploits of the same ambassador accused of soliciting prostitutes:

* A DS agent was called off a case against US Ambassador to Belgium Howard Gutman over claims that he solicited prostitutes, including minors.

"The agent began his investigation and had determined that the ambassador routinely ditched his protective security detail in order to solicit sexual favors from both prostitutes and minor children," says the memo.

"The ambassador's protective detail and the embassy's surveillance detection team . . . were well aware of the behavior."

Undersecretary of State for Management Patrick Kennedy ordered the investigation ceased, and the ambassador remains in place, according to the memo.

Gutman was a big Democratic donor before taking the post, having raised $500,000 for President Obama's 2008 campaign and helping finance his inaugural.

Put a fork in Hillary's presidential campaign, she's done.
