NSA Whistle-Blower Revealed
One thing is for certain, the recent bombshell revelation about the NSA and its PRISM program has gotten everyone talking. The amazing part is that this issue doesn't break down along party lines, like is the case with much of the policies we discuss. That speaks to the complexity of balancing our civil liberties with security, big government versus invasive government. As an isolated practice, I can understand why many people feel that the NSA's activities are justified and necessary in order to keep Americans safe in a 21st century society. But the reality is that we have to look at the recent revelations in context. There are two big contexts to consider...( more)

Congressman Sensenbrenner
Congressman Sensenbrenner, Wisconsin's 5th district representative is the author of the Patriot Act. He joined Sean to give some clarity of the document and the abuse of it by the Obama Administration. The Patriot Act was not meant to give widespread clearance and authorization to tap into the private lives of citizens the congressman explained. The Prism program, which granted further access, was not authorized until 2007 when Sensenbrenner was head of the Judiciary Committee. Sensenbrenner said he would not have Ok'd this excessive invasion into people's private lives. He explains that organizations like Skype, Verizon, Facebook were issued a court order forcing them to comply. The idea that this information is for national security is absurd. "Spying on American citizens will do nothing to help the war on terror," the congressman explained, "if we choose to ignore the issue of our border. They are not secure, they are not properly monitored and people are crossing illegally every day."
IRS scandal dead?
The Democrats have declared the IRS scandal dead. No, seriously! They think that we've gotten to the bottom of the targeting of conservatives, changes have been made and it's time to move on. Democrat Rep. Elijah Cummings told CNN's Candy Crowley over the weekend: "Based upon everything I've seen, the case is solved. And if it were me, I would wrap this case up and move on, to be frank with you. In other words ... the IG made some recommendations, those recommendations are being adopted by the IRS, we've got a new commissioner in, acting commissioner in, Danny Werfel is doing a great job, I think we're in great shape." The GOP says that Americans deserve answers. I agree. The Democrats' eagerness to dismiss the scandal is understandable from a political standpoint, but disappointing. If the shoe were on the other foot, they wouldn't rest until we understood the full extent of this scandal. I wouldn't blame them...( more)

PAT DOLLARD YOUNG AMERICANS 11 Hours Ago Bloomberg to Air Gun Control Ad During Superbowl Feb 2, 2013Toro520 Via The Associated Press: NEW YORK (Associated Press) – A gun control group founded by New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg is airing a Super Bowl advertisement calling for background checks. The 30-second spot by Mayors Against Illegal Guns will air in the Washington area during the game between the Baltimore Ravens and San Francisco 49ers. The ad calls on lawmakers to pass rules requiring background checks on guns. It is narrated by children, with “America the Beautiful” playing in the background. It includes decades-old footage of National Rifle Association Executive Vice President Wayne LaPierre saying the gun lobby group approves of the checks. LaPierre recently testified before the Senate Judiciary Committee that the NRA no longer supports background checks for all gun sales. A Bloomsberg spokesman would say only that the ad cost in the six-figure range....
