Foreign Assistance Act requires Obama to cut off aid to Egypt after coup
Foreign Assistance Act was signed in 1961 by President John F. Kennedy. According to the Daily Caller:
Section 508 of the decades-old Foreign Assistance Act stipulates that "none of the funds appropriated or otherwise made available pursuant to this Act shall be obligated or expended to finance directly any assistance to any country whose duly elected head of government is deposed by a military coup or decree."
This means, according to the Foreign Assistance Act, the toppling of Egypt's Muslim Brotherhood government by the military requires the U.S. to cut off it's $1.5 billion annual aid to the country. Of course, we know Obama just follows the laws he likes, and this probably wouldn't happen. Republicans in Congress will be too ball-less to take Obama on for violating the US Law that has existed for 51 and a half years.
