HB2 Passes Senate, on to Governor Perry for Signing
Supporters and opponents of HB2, the bill restricting abortions after 20 weeks of gestation and raising the operating standards of abortion clinics around the state, flooded the halls of the Capitol in the early hours of the morning today to witness the passage of the bill after a filibuster forced a second special session, two more weeks of testimonies, rallies and debates. At 2:30 PM today the State Senate convened at the Capitol to begin final debate on HB2 and we are proud to announce that HB2 has passed the Senate and on its way to the Governor's desk to be signed into law.

Approved by a vote of 19-11, the passage of HB2 is a testament to the proven conservative values that have made Texas one of the most successful states in the nation for the last two decades. We continued that streak today, becoming a nationwide leader in pro-life legislation and furthering the protection of women's health around the state. As Democrats continue to talk about their dreams of turning Texas blue, passage of HB2 is proof that Texans are conservative and organized and we look forward to working with our amazing Republican leadership in the Texas Legislature as they finish the special session strong. And once again, we thank bill authors, Rep. Jodie Laubenberg and Sen. Glenn Hegar, for their leadership on this important issue.
The Legislature will be back in Session next week to wrap up the final two weeks of the session with bills on transportation funding and criminal justice reform. Stay tuned for more updates on these bills as progress is made.
