Creeping Towards A Deal
There has been movement in Washington, but a deal has yet to be reached. Yesterday Obama met with a handful of House Republicans in a discussion that has been described by some as "constructive," "useful" and "productive." A new NBC poll finds that a majority of Americans believe Obama is putting his own political agenda ahead of what's good for the country. I would agree. Obama doesn't seem to be standing on principle so much as seems to be for hurting Republicans politically and imposing his terrible healthcare on a nation that doesn't want it... more

Obama Misleads
Throughout this debate over the debt ceiling, Barack Obama loves to throw out the following line: We've cut the deficit in half. On the surface, this seems like something to brag about for those of us who support limited government and recognize that our spending is out of control. What Obama DOESN'T tell you is that he is basing this on record high spending, deficit and debt levels. It's like a chain smoker bragging that they've cut their daily amount of cigarettes: If you were smoking two packs a day, now you are only smoking one pack a day ... but you are still smoking one pack a day! The bottom line is that you haven't quit the bad habit... more
Mechanical Bull Cancelled
You may recall the public outcry when it was announced that during the partial government shutdown, purchasing a mechanical bull for the Utah National Guard somehow made the cut of essential expenditures. The purchase was set to cost the taxpayers over $47,000. You'll be happy to hear that this contract has since been canceled. Now while the official line from government bureaucrats is that the purchase was a contracting "glitch," we can't help but wonder if public pressure made the difference. But as we well know, examples like this are all too common. For example, just days before the shutdown, the Air Force signed a contract to spend over $84,000 on eco-friendly Exit signs. These LED Exit signs will replace existing lighting at the Bowling Center, Recreation Center and other buildings on the Joint Base Charleston-Weapons Station in Goose Creek, South Carolina. Making public these outrageous expenditures may slowly be making a difference in holding bureaucratic feet to t he fire when it comes to spending with your tax dollars.

Superbowl anti-gun ad, hope it backfires on them

PAT DOLLARD YOUNG AMERICANS 11 Hours Ago Bloomberg to Air Gun Control Ad During Superbowl Feb 2, 2013Toro520 Via The Associated Press: NEW YORK (Associated Press) – A gun control group founded by New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg is airing a Super Bowl advertisement calling for background checks. The 30-second spot by Mayors Against Illegal Guns will air in the Washington area during the game between the Baltimore Ravens and San Francisco 49ers. The ad calls on lawmakers to pass rules requiring background checks on guns. It is narrated by children, with “America the Beautiful” playing in the background. It includes decades-old footage of National Rifle Association Executive Vice President Wayne LaPierre saying the gun lobby group approves of the checks. LaPierre recently testified before the Senate Judiciary Committee that the NRA no longer supports background checks for all gun sales. A Bloomsberg spokesman would say only that the ad cost in the six-figure range....
