Fwd: Responding to your message

 October 22, 2013

Dear Mr. Hames,

Thank you for contacting me to express support for defunding the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (ObamaCare). I appreciate you sharing your views, which help inform and guide me in Congress.

I share your support for getting rid of this deeply flawed law. I voted in favor of H.J.Res. 59, the Continuing Appropriations Resolution, when it passed the House on September 20, 2013, by a vote of 230 to 189. This legislation would fund the government through December 15, 2013, while fully defunding ObamaCare. The Senate, unfortunately, stripped out the language defunding ObamaCare before it passed a "clean" continuing resolution on September 27, 2013.

You may also be interested to know I am a cosponsor of H.J. Res. 62, another Continuing Resolution introduced by Rep. Tom Graves (GA) that includes full defunding of ObamaCare. In addition, I signed a letter to House Republican leadership, circulated by Rep. Mark Meadows (NC) in August, asking that ObamaCare be defunded in any relevant appropriations bill that moves through the House in this Congress.

Ultimately, I believe ObamaCare needs to be fully repealed which is why I was proud to cosponsor and vote for H.R. 45—a full repeal of Obamacare—which passed the House on May 16, 2013 by a vote of 229 to 195. As Obamacare causes more damage to our health care system and our economy, I am hopeful that the Senate will take this new opportunity to repeal this law and replace it with patient-centered reforms.

As a physician with more than 30 years of experience, taking care of patients has been my life's work. Please rest assured that reforming our health care system will be my top priority as long as I have the privilege to serve you in Congress.

If there is anything I can do to be of assistance, or if you would like to receive my e-newsletter, please visit www.roe.house.gov. Again, I thank you for your opinions and look forward to serving you. Please do not hesitate to contact my office in the future.

Sincerely,

David P. Roe
Member of Congress
