FOUNDER'S QUOTE DAILY

"If we continue to be a happy people, that happiness must be assured by the enacting and executing of reasonable and wise laws, expressed in the plainest language, and by establishing such modes of education as tend to inculcate in the minds of youth, the feelings and habits of 'piety, religion and morality,' and to lead them to the knowledge and love of those truly Republican principles upon which our civil institutions are founded." --Samuel Adams, Address to the Legislature of Massachusetts, 1795

YOU LIE! -- 36 Times and Counting

Obama's broken promise -- "If you like your health care plan, you will be able to keep your health care plan" -- has forced the president to tell new lies about old lies. But the embarrassments keep mounting. A new video compilation depicts 36 different instances where Obama promised you could keep your insurance. Period. The Leftmedia is likewise taking heat for coming to BO's defense. Heritage Foundation's Rob Bluey notes, "The New York Times is catching flak for a blatant example of liberal media bias: pretending that President Obama simply 'misspoke' when he told Americans at least 36 times they could keep their current health insurance. ... So, who's to blame? According to the New York Times, congressional Republicans, of course." We're surprised they haven't blamed Bush ... yet. Check out the video.

SEAL Patch Spat Correction

Monday, we reported on a Navy directive prohibiting SEALs from using The First Navy Jack with the words "Don't Tread On Me." That information came to us from former SEAL Team 10 veteran Carl Higbie. Soon after publishing, we were contacted by one of our Patriot readers with information to the contrary. Indeed, Navy spokeswoman Lt. Cmdr. Sarah Flaherty told Navy Times, "As of September 2013, all Naval Special Warfare personnel are authorized to wear the U.S. flag and the 'Don't Tread on me' uniform patches. In the past, NSW did not authorize wearing either patch unless one was deployed or in a work-up cycle. However, NSW recently sought special permission from the Chief of Naval Operations staff to wear the patches within the continental United States." While someone downstream from the CNO may have issued a directive to the contrary, the current directive as noted by Lt. Cmdr. Flaherty trumps any other.

680 'Green Military' Projects

Did someone say "budget cuts"? Sequestration is taking its toll on military preparedness, but that hasn't stopped the government from wasting money on more "green" military projects. According to The Blaze, "The Defense Department has 680 renewable energy projects in the works encompassing all five branches of the U.S. armed forces" that "include 357 solar, 29 wind and five other undisclosed endeavors regarding 'electricity generation,' according to a document provided by the Defense Department. There are 289 thermal energy projects as well." Per usual, the administration says it's necessary to protect our military servicemen and women from the effects of "global warming." Meanwhile, who's protecting our service members from the dire effects of Obama's incompetence?

O'Care Privileges for Unions

To no one's surprise, Big Labor just received a big pat on the back from Health and Human Services. Kaiser Health News reports, "Weeks after denying labor's request to give union members access to health-law subsidies, the Obama administration is signaling it intends to exempt some union plans from one of the law's substantial taxes." The ruling affects "the law's temporary reinsurance fee in 2015 and 2016," though union heads are attempting to get an exemption for 2014 as well. Kaiser notes, "Eliminating the reinsurance fee was one of several resolutions adopted at the AFL-CIO's September convention, along with giving union plans access to ACA tax credits for lower-income members."

Guns & Ammo Control

What part of "shall not be infringed" is so difficult to understand? Editor Dick Matcalf in an upcoming edition of Guns & Ammo not only defends gun control, but encourages its enactment. Metcalf argues, "I bring this up because way too many gun owners still believe that any regulation of the right to keep and bear arms is an infringement. The fact is that all Constitutional rights are regulated, always have been, and need to be." However, as noted by Mark Alexander in The Second Amendment, the Bill of Rights is an enumeration of limitations on government, as much as the enumeration of individual rights. Alexander notes that "a well regulated militia" is, in context, a reference to the body of the people as a whole being well armed and trained. Of course, many on the Left claim the term "militia" is referring to the military. Not according to the Founders.

Firearm Producers Depart New York

In defiance of the state's SAFE Act, three gun companies are preparing to leave New York and set up shop in more gun-friendly territory. According to the Washington Free Beacon, "American Tactical Imports (ATI) ... will be investing $2.7 million in its new facility and creating 117 new jobs in South Carolina," Kahr Arms is headed to Pennsylvania, and "Remington Arms is reportedly scouting locations in Tennessee for a new plant." Memo to Gov. Cuomo: You can't have your cake and eat it too.

Obama Demands Explanation

Amid the flurry of health insurance policy cancellation letters that millions of Americans are receiving, the Obama administration is insisting that insurance companies have some 'splainin' to do. That's right -- Obama wants insurance companies to tell their clients just why they're canceling plans. But the president should be careful what he asks for! The reason, of course, is the "Affordable" Care Act itself, and it's myriad regulations. We hope the companies are completely forthright as soon as possible.

Two Decade Freeze on Warming

New research from Professor Judith Curry of the Georgia Institute of Technology and Dr. Marcia Wyatt indicates that the current 17-year hiatus on global warming may continue for another 20 years. Curry and Wyatt say that the UN IPCC and other climate alarmists are underestimating natural phenomena in determining climate, and that a 300-year observable climatic "stadium wave" better accounts for rising and falling temperatures. According to the UK Daily Mail, "The research comes amid mounting evidence that the computer models on which the IPCC based the gloomy forecasts of a rapidly warming planet in its latest report, published in September, are diverging widely from reality." That's putting it mildly.

DoJ May Charge Zimmerman

Attorney General Eric Holder said that Obama's Department of "Justice" may yet charge George Zimmerman with civil rights violations for the self-defense shooting of Trayvon Martin last year. "I'm not sure exactly how much longer that will take," Holder said, "but we will get to a point where we are able to make a determination." He did, however, caution that "a substantial part [of Zimmerman's case] was resolved in the case that was tried." Perhaps he'll avoid the inevitable firestorm that would come from such a ludicrous effort, but his track record isn't great.

Best Excuse of the Day

Tuesday, Toronto Mayor Rob Ford, who has been the subject of much behavioral controversy for months, admitted that he has tried crack cocaine. When asked by a reporter if he had ever used cocaine, Ford responded, "Have I tried crack? Maybe in one of my drunken stupors." Seriously, he used a "drunken stupor" as an excuse for smoking crack! For the record, Ford's approval ratings have increased recently -- no so much because of his crack use or drunken stupors, but because he has kept his campaign promise to implement tax reduction policies. Late Late Show host Craig Ferguson, no stranger to substance abuse himself, offered a slogan for the next Ford campaign: "Get Toronto back on track -- vote for the guy who smokes crack."

Follow us on Twitter View this as website BY JAMIE MCINTYRE ADVERTISEMENT FROM 'CATCH AND RELEASE' TO 'DETAIN AND DEPORT': After months of hard-nosed negotiation behind closed doors in the Senate, the text of a compromise $118 billion national security supplemental budget bill, which includes major concessions from the Democrats on border security and desperately needed aid for Ukraine, was released last night. Senators now have two days to read and digest it before a Wednesday vote. Sen. James Lankford (R-OK), the lead GOP negotiator, said the bill contains all the most vital reforms Republicans have demanded and called it a "once-in-a-generation opportunity to close our open border." "The bill provides funding to build the wall, increase technology at the border, and add more detention beds, more agents, and more deportation flights. The border security bil
