FOUNDER'S QUOTE DAILY

"Temporary delusions, prejudices, excitements, and objects have irresistible influence in mere questions of policy. And the policy of one age may ill suit the wishes or the policy of another. The constitution is not subject to such fluctuations. It is to have a fixed, uniform, permanent construction. It should be, so far at least as human infirmity will allow, not dependent upon the passions or parties of particular times, but the same yesterday, to-day, and for ever." --Joseph Story, Commentaries on the Constitution, 1833

TODAY'S 'TOP TEN' FROM RIGHT HOOK

Big Labor's O'Care Exemption

As anticipated, Big Labor was officially granted a waiver from ObamaCare's reinsurance fee. And the administration will raise taxes on the not-so-fortunate to cover the lost revenue as a result. The Washington Examiner has the details: "The change exempts 'self-administered, self-insured group health plans' from the law's reinsurance fee. The shift will raise the cost of the tax for those who do pay to $44 a year. It had previously been $42. In essence, the change is forcing those who don't get the exception to pay an extra $2 for those who do." This pat on the back will appease one of Obama's biggest constituencies who worked tirelessly to get ObamaCare passed in the first place, but who have recently played the part of critic instead of cheerleader. Obama's darlings may be happily embracing the news, but the rest of America is once again catering to unions' demands.

Another CO Democrat Out

Back in September, two Colorado legislators, including the state senate president, were successfully recalled for pushing anti-gun legislation. Now, a third Democrat state senator, Evie Hudak, has opted to resign rather than lose her own recall. The move was shrewd because she was term limited and now her party can appoint another Democrat to take her place rather than practically hand the seat to Republican Lang Sias, who lost to her by half a point last year. That means Democrats retain their one-seat advantage in the chamber for at least a while longer. Hudak not only backed Colorado's draconian anti-gun legislation, but callously dismissed the testimony of a rape victim in the process. Who's waging a "war on women"? Her supporters were reduced to thug tactics -- but that's par for the course for Democrats.

Price of Ammo Shooting Up

The EPA isn't just in the business of shuttering coal plants. They're also apparently a good source for backdoor gun (read: "bullet") control. Thanks to regulations enacted in 2008, America's lone lead smelter based in Herculaneum, Missouri, will be shut down at months'e end. Breitbart's AWR Hawkins reports: "Herculaneum's product is the type of lead used to make components for traditional lead ammunition, and once the smelter closes, such lead and/or ammunition components will have to be imported into the U.S. Ammunition prices are expected to rise, reflecting import costs."

Demo-goguing Food Stamps

"Americans do not only care about ensuring their neighbors have enough to eat on Thanksgiving, but at a time when people are about to sit around at the table with their families to celebrate a meal, it hardly seems [to be] the right time for pulling food off the table for millions of our neighbors and fellow Americans." So said White House economic adviser Gene Sperling last Tuesday. He was hammering the Republican proposal from earlier this year for a permanent $2 billion annual increase in food stamp spending over pre-recession levels. But it sounded better to slam them for taking turkeys at Thanksgiving. Food stamp spending has exploded under Barack Obama from $39 billion in 2008 to $80 billion in 2013.

Obama Profiles Immigrants

Pushing for immigration reform once again, Barack Obama wouldn't rule out executive action. He also said something astounding: "As I was getting a tour of DreamWorks, I didn't ask, but just looking at faces I could tell there were some folks who are here not because they are born here, but because they want to be here. They bring extraordinary talents to the United States, and that's part of what makes America special." Of course, if any Republican had claimed to be able to recognize immigrants "just looking at faces" he'd be denounced as a racist bigot. But Obama has the racism-free pass: the "D" after his name.

Self-Esteem v Achievement

Columnist Arnold Ahlert: "[M]ost Americans, including the LIVs ['low information voters'], are inundated by information. What they actually pay attention to is the great separator. We live in an age where the public school system promotes the maintenance of self-esteem over genuine achievement, and trains younger generations of Americans to feel, rather than to think. And now that everyone gets a trophy just for showing up, the distinction between banality and greatness no longer applies. Everyone is 'special,' and there is little reason to dwell on anything that occurs outside one's personal universe. By accident or design, the Obama administration and their media lapdogs have been masters at exploiting this phenomenon. No sooner does one scandal arise than another takes its place, followed by another and another, seemingly ad infinitum. Keeping track requires genuine effort in an age where effort has given way to the cruise control of self-absorption. Those who remain genuinely outraged are either dismissed as over-wrought, or denigrated with a label such as 'misogynist,' 'homophobe,' 'nativist,' or 'teabagger,' with the understanding that, once labeled, no further thought is required."

Obama: Deficit Hawk

Barack Obama bragged last week about all the work he's done to make federal spending more responsible. "After years of trillion dollar deficits, we've reined in spending," he boasted. "You would think sometimes listening to the folks in Washington that we haven't made any progress on that front. We wound down two wars, we changed the tax code that was too skewed towards the wealthiest Americans at the expense of the middle class. You add it all up, we've cut our deficits by more than half and they continue to go down faster than any time since World War II." He neglected to mention the part where he's added $6 trillion to the debt in just five years, or that every single one of his budget deficits is a record.

50% Reject Man-Made Warming

Barack Obama and his leftist cadres love to cite the "97% consensus" -- the majority of climate scientists who, we've been told, accept the notion of anthropogenic global warming. However, a survey by the American Meteorological Society (AMS) -- whose council backs the theory of human induced global warming -- proves otherwise. "Nearly half of meteorologists and atmospheric science experts don't believe that human activities are the driving force behind global warming," reports The Daily Caller. "Furthermore, the survey found that scientists who professed 'liberal political views' were much more likely to believe in the theory of man-made global warming than those who without liberal views."

MSM Ignores 'Knockout' Game

Radio talk show host Larry Elder: "The 'knockout game' -- and the media underreporting of it -- combines the breakdown of the family with the media's condescending determination to serve as a public relations bureau for blacks. The 'game' is a dare in which a young man -- all the perps appear to be male people of color, mostly blacks -- tries to literally knock out an innocent bystander with one blow. Both National Public Radio and The New York Times say these reports of the 'knockout game' being widespread are overblown and do not represent a trend. Really? ... From a distance, the media can spot some lone idiot holding up an offensive sign at a tea party rally. But when it comes to black perp/white victim crime, there is a very different attitude."

Hand Grenades v ObamaCare

The Washington Examiner's Philip Klein on the Obama administration's claim Healthcare.gov is up and running: "On the call, Centers for Medicare and Medicaid spokeswoman Julie Bataille was a bit vague about whether that goal had been met. Five weeks ago, Bataille said, just 30 percent of users could get through the process. 'Today, we're now more in the zone of about 80 percent of users being able to do that same process successfully,' she said. What does 'in the zone of about' mean? Furthermore, she emphasized that not all Americans will feel comfortable signing up by the website, and could seek help by phone or in person. That suggests that the vague 80 percent number includes all forms of signing up for insurance, not just through the website. And once again, comparing it to the private sector, imagine if one out of every five people trying to buy airplane tickets on Orbitz could not do so." In other words, Obama spiked the football on 4th and 1 at the 10 yard line and called it a home run.
