Tennessee: Governor Signs Pro-Gun Bill, Another Awaits Signature

Yesterday, Governor Bill Haslam (R) signed into law Senate Bill 1700.  Sponsored by state Senator Mark Green (R-22), SB 1700 passed in the Tennessee Senate unanimously last month.  Last week, the state House of Representatives passed SB 1700 by an 89 to 5 vote.  SB 1700 and its companion, HB 1404, sponsored by state Representative Sheila Butt (R-64), state that incidental exposure of a firearm during the course of securing that firearm in a locked vehicle does not violate state law with regards to having a firearm in a locked vehicle on an employer's parking lot.

Today, the state House of Representatives passed Senate Bill 1701, which was substituted on the House floor for its companion bill, House Bill 1405.  The state House passed SB 1701 by an 83 to 6 vote, which will now be sent to Governor Haslam for his signature.  The state Senate passed SB 1701 unanimously on February 5.  SB 1701, also sponsored by Senator Green, redefines "motor vehicle" under Tennessee's parking lot law to include all vehicles lawfully possessed by the permit holder with the exception of government or business owned vehicles.

Using the contact information provided below, please call and e-mail Governor Haslam today and respectfully urge him to sign SB 1701 into law.
