Israel uncovers cross-border tunnels in Gaza as deadly ground offensive against Hamas militants continues

Hamas militants strapped explosives to a donkey and sent it toward Israeli soldiers, the Israeli Defense Forces said Saturday. 

"IDF forces operating in the Rafah area spotted an explosives-laden donkey approaching their position. The soldiers opened fire, causing the explosives to detonate," the army wrote on its website regarding the Friday evening incident in which the animal "suspiciously began to approach."

GAZA CITY, Gaza Strip — Israeli troops uncovered more than a dozen cross-border tunnels and battled Gaza militants on the second day of an open-ended ground operation Saturday as the Palestinian death toll climbed to 325 and diplomats scrambled to revive cease-fire efforts.
