The National Rifle Association is gathering for its 148th annual meeting, which begins Thursday in Indianapolis. What started in 1871 as a group devoted to hunting, shooting sports and gun safety has evolved into one of the most powerful forces in American politics. Some photos over the years:   NBC BAY AREA The NRA Sues Los Angeles Over Its Disclosure Law for City Contractors The National Rifle Association is suing Los Angeles over a new law requiring companies that want city contracts to disclose whether they have ties to the gun rights group. The lawsuit filed Wednesday claims the law violates the First Amendment right to free speech and association and its 14th Amendment right to equal protection.
