New Study: Cops Prevent Crime
Readers may have noticed that we review "gun policy" studies regularly. Those clamoring for federal funding for gun policy research should set themselves up a Google Scholar alert, but not everything we want to highlight is directly related to gun policy. Crime is a complex issue and criminals are – shockingly – at the root of "gun crime".

New Zealand Government Wants Blank Check for Gun Confiscation
On April 2, gun control legislation hastily concocted after the terrorist attack in Christchurch passed its first reading in the New Zealand Parliament. The legislation would ban, and provide for the confiscation of, several types of commonly-owned semi-automatic firearms and their accessories and even many pump-action shotguns. The oppressive legislation will face two further votes in parliament before it becomes law. Upon brining the legislation to parliament, Police Minister Stuart Nash proclaimed, "Owning a firearm is a privilege, not a right."

Bad anti-gun research, and the sensationalist journalism that often accompanies it, provide unending opportunities for the most used (overused?) of all firearm themes: Zombies. Just when you think the thing is gone for good, it appears again.

The folly of 'Red Flag' gun laws external site
Weld County Sheriff Steve Reams in Colorado made news Monday over his willingness to go to jail over his refusal to enforce what will soon be the state's new "Red Flag" law. Given the news media plays these laws, also known as Extreme Risk Protection Orders, as being so sensible, Sheriff Reams looks like a kooky right-winger. After all, who could be against taking away guns from people who are a danger to themselves or others? But the laws are more complicated than usually discussed in the press. Depending upon the state, anyone from a family member, intimate partner, ex, house or apartment mates, or police can file a complaint. Under Colorado's proposed law, anyone can make a phone call to the police. They don't even have to be living in the state. There is no hearing. All the judge has before them is the statement of concern.

Frank Miniter: How Trump can stop Democrats from unfairly punishing the gun industry external site
President Trump can do one simple thing that would, with one stroke of his pen, save little businesses across America, bring fairness to a politically incorrect industry that voted for him and stop another attempt to bankrupt America's gun manufacturers. Trump can approve a reform to modernize our export-control language so that it includes the U.S. ammunition and firearms industry. All the other industry sectors that were involved have already benefitted from this process, when their oversight for export was moved from the U.S. Department of State to the import-export experts at the U.S. Department of Commerce.

Today, Federal District Court Roger T. Benitez issued an order staying enforcement of the judgment in the NRA and CRPA supported case of Duncan v. Becerra.  Last Friday, Judge Benitez issued a tremendous victory for gun owners, striking down California's restrictions against the manufacture, importation, sale, transfer, receipt, and possession of magazines capable of holding more than 10 rounds.

Follow us on Twitter View this as website BY JAMIE MCINTYRE ADVERTISEMENT FROM 'CATCH AND RELEASE' TO 'DETAIN AND DEPORT': After months of hard-nosed negotiation behind closed doors in the Senate, the text of a compromise $118 billion national security supplemental budget bill, which includes major concessions from the Democrats on border security and desperately needed aid for Ukraine, was released last night. Senators now have two days to read and digest it before a Wednesday vote. Sen.
