Big Government Leftists do not want you to have a gun. They don't care about your 2nd Amendment right to keep and bear arms, and would disarm you tomorrow if they could. Heritage will not let the Left use tragedies to make bad policy; we assemble key facts to win arguments, whether they are at the water cooler, the kitchen table, or in the halls of Congress.

That's why I'm proud of my colleagues at Heritage's Meese Center for Legal and Judicial Studies for building the Defensive Gun Use Database, which shows that Americans responsibly use their rights for self-defense and disproves the notion that free people can't be trusted with their own defense. These facts help win the self-defense argument, but so much work remains if we will successfully preserve the 2nd Amendment as our Founding Fathers intended.
