Walking the beaches at Normandy

Fellow Conservative,

The Labor Day holiday this weekend marks the unofficial end of summer. Did you and your family get to take any trips this year? I just got back from a trip to France, which was incredible!

I joined around 30 of our Heritage members there to walk around Pointe du Hoc and the beaches at Normandy, visit an American Cemetery and Memorial, and experience other WWII history. Here's a picture of our time together.

Those sites really got me thinking about the price of preserving liberty. When our American soldiers answered the call to fight the evil unfolding in Europe and around the world, all gave some and some gave all. Our group of Heritage supporters cherished the opportunity to go and honor the sacrifices of so many Americans who kept the world free. I'll remember this trip for years to come.

Eisenhower said that the US entrance into the war was a "fury of an aroused democracy." Don't you think we could use a bit of that same courage today? We need passionate patriots who see the threats to our rights and values and actually do something about it. That's our Heritage mission every day.

Have you ever visited somewhere like Normandy that stirred your enthusiasm for the conservative cause? What lessons do you think we can learn from reflecting on important history like that? Hope you enjoy your holiday weekend, and I'll write you again next week!

Best,

Andrew

Superbowl anti-gun ad, hope it backfires on them

PAT DOLLARD YOUNG AMERICANS 11 Hours Ago Bloomberg to Air Gun Control Ad During Superbowl Feb 2, 2013Toro520 Via The Associated Press: NEW YORK (Associated Press) – A gun control group founded by New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg is airing a Super Bowl advertisement calling for background checks. The 30-second spot by Mayors Against Illegal Guns will air in the Washington area during the game between the Baltimore Ravens and San Francisco 49ers. The ad calls on lawmakers to pass rules requiring background checks on guns. It is narrated by children, with “America the Beautiful” playing in the background. It includes decades-old footage of National Rifle Association Executive Vice President Wayne LaPierre saying the gun lobby group approves of the checks. LaPierre recently testified before the Senate Judiciary Committee that the NRA no longer supports background checks for all gun sales. A Bloomsberg spokesman would say only that the ad cost in the six-figure range....
