Bishop: Use Prayer, Fasting Against Virginia Amendments

What happened: Bishop Michael Burbidge is rallying Virginia Catholics to defeat two proposed constitutional amendments on abortion and marriage. He is urging Catholics to pray, fast, vote, and encourage others to oppose the amendments.

Why it matters: The amendments could significantly impact abortion access, parental consent, and the definition of marriage in Virginia. The bishop views prayer and fasting as powerful tools to confront these issues.

Key details:

• Amendments: Question 1 expands abortion access and undermines parental consent. Question 2 redefines marriage and enshrines transgender ideology.

• Campaign: Burbidge's "Catholics Vote No" campaign includes fasting and praying on Fridays and Sundays, and encouraging political participation.

• Timeline: Early voting opened Sept. 18, with Election Day on Nov. 3.

• Impact: The bishop emphasizes the importance of these amendments as a "generational vote" with far-reaching consequences.
