You've probably heard the biblical parable of building your house on the stable rock instead of the unstable sand before the floods come. The philosophy of our military is a lot like that too. We should pray that war never comes but always have our armed forces ready for if it ever does. Heritage believes that a strong national defense is an important conservative principle. So each year, we publish an index that takes a thorough "look under the hood" at US military readiness. We're proud that it's actually the only non-governmental and annual assessment of US military strength.
